Well, we told @cityofvancouver.bsky.social council that new info on single stair buildings was coming soon… and here, the next day, is a big report from the Pew Charitable Trust * Quotes below… *based on a ton of legwork by @stephenjacobsmith.com and others www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-...

Center running bus lanes — they work everywhere. But could they work here? To find out, we asked three highway engineers who have never seen a bus.

Best we can do is 4-5 year timelines and hundreds of millions of dollars 🤑🏗️

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has been so overwhelmed by complaints about CBC #CrossCountryFuckUp with Ian Hanomansing, it has had to close the complaints process. @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social

CBC's Cross Country Checkup promises to foster discussion between Canadians who think we should become 51st state, and Canadians who think we should surrender to different countries

I wrote a thing! Check it out!

Awful news for newspapers, legacy media. www.newwestrecord.ca/local-news/burnaby-now-new-westminster-record-tri-city-news-to-close-10270756

I seriously cannot believe how much I cared about that hockey game. I am so relieved that Canada won.

Let’s be honest. We really needed this. #4Nations #CanadaWins

There ya have it folks, staff say single stair buildings in Vancouver aren't possible because of *waves hands* "the Vancouver context". Is Vancouver some special snowflake compred to say ... Seattle?? @ravikahlon.bsky.social

Takes From New West, Pt 2 #lovenewwest

A pedestrian has been killed at 8th and McBride in New West tonight, just a month after one was killed a couple blocks away, and 2 months after one was nearly killed in the same spot. www.nwpolice.org/blog/2025/02...

We don't want to hear "the pedestrian was wearing a black jacket" ever again

First time making a zine

The Baltic states Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have today fully decoupled their energy grid from Russia. At the moment they are running in an island mode, but starting tomorrow the energy grid will be reconnected with the European Union.

In 2021 large sections along a 130km stretch of the Coquihalla washed into the river; it was fully re-opened in a year. But when a couple hundred metres of probably the most popular pedestrian & cyclist path in the province is damaged? Oops sorry maybe we'll fix it in 7 years! 🙃

Congestion Pricing is creating tremendous benefits. Subway Ridership: ⬆️ 13% Bus Ridership: ⬆️ 6% (⬆️ 21% weekends) Transit Crime: 🔻36% Fatal Car Crashes: 🔻44% Trip Times: 🔻10-30%

As it stands right now with Vancouver saying they'll 100% pedestrianize the Granville mall, They're essentially at negative bus lane kilometers announced since the bus lane motion in summer 2024.

New West in the snow ❄️

Hey Vancouver voters. This is good news. I’ve worked with and observed city councillors up close in too many cities to list (including Vancouver, obviously) for 33 years. Lucy would be a very good city councillor.

Canada said

amazing how lowrise 90% of vancouver is compared to the cropped views we get of downtown with the bay and mountains

Lucy!! The most passionate advocate for safe streets and active transportation that I've ever met ❤️

It's disappointing to hear the news about the US-Canada border and the PCT. While the 8km north to Manning Park is a bit anticlimactic, it will be even worse to feel the rush of finishing, then need to hike the 40 miles back south to the nearest road Anyway here's me www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This is with like ... not much of a network of bike lanes, in a very hilly city. Can't wait to see what the full buildout will bring. www.newwestrecord.ca/local-news/l...

16-home 6-story point access block social housing in paris, MIR architectes damn studios to 3BRs. ground floor retail space. active solar protection. <$200k per home. and 100% illegal in every part of the US. i wonder why we have a housing crisis? 📸: Julien Lanoo mirarchitectes.fr/16-logements/

No jurisdiction that has reduced homelessness has ever done the following: - frame the solution as the problem - reduce housing and supports - turn low-income housing into high-income housing - use human lives as a negotiating tool www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar...

The District of North Vancouver is shutting down its Twitter account. I call upon @newwestminster.bsky.social to do the same and stop using a platform run by and overrun with fascists. #NewWest

True bonding moments with neighbors: in sync yelling at drivers to f off while you try to cross the street safely

Rest In Peace Shawn Yim ❤️ Murdered on the job while driving bus, King County Metro arranged a memorial procession in his honour and boy did they get a turnout. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I hope that everyone who believes water and other utilities should be priced by the amount you use also applies that thinking to road use. To not meter and pay by amount used results in those that use little subsidising those that use a lot. Roads, electricity, water, sewer.

Infrastructure costs have become a go-to excuse for restrictive zoning policy in BC. But this gets things backwards. Infrastructure for denser housing is cheaper per capita. Apartment bans are hurting, not helping. New analysis by me & @dannyoleksiuk.bsky.social www.policynote.ca/housing-infr...

kinda funny that all it took to defeat traffic in the most crowded city in the country was only a simple $9 congestion relief zone

This would be so easy! They literally have to just print fewer things on the new signs theyre making anyway, and they get all-day bus lanes.

Important editorial in today's Globe & Mail about automated enforcement. In Vancouver we're still waiting for the extra 100 or so speed cameras delayed by Ken Sim's ABC's amendments to Cllr Boyle's Nov 2023 motion.

It's a great injustice walking along one of Vancouver's premier "High Streets" - W 4th - and sometimes only having 3 feet of sidewalk between light poles and sandwich boards, yet seeing 6 lanes (60 ft?) dedicated to cars. @cityofvancouver.bsky.social

Vancouver is creating its "second downtown" around what is *already* the busiest bus route in North America. It clearly warrants a multi-billion dollar subway which is still years away. Transit on Broadway should already be acting like a subway and that means all-day bus lanes 🚍❤️

🚨 Bus Lane Alert 🚨 (Vancouver, BC) 🎶 Where oh where should the bus lanes be? 🎵 Maybe just maybe on the 99-B 🐝 The BUSIEST section of the BUSIEST bus line in Canada or the US deserves all-day bus lanes! Vancouver is considering a half-baked solution. Lets make them bake the whole cake 🎂 1/10
