Probably should start inspecting king pins in people's luggage more often

As others have said, it's a preprint server. No requirement submissions are published in, or even submitted to journals (though most things on there are). In astro it's expected you put articles there. One astro journal now just referees your arXiv paper, circumventing extortionate publishers (yay!)

Excellent! Do let me or others in the Australian community if we can/need to help, especially @drsimmo.bsky.social

Should have said that the image is BOM's Doppler Wind image at www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR...

Thanks, Simon! I think we'll hear back from others soon about what sort of support is required if mirrors are to be made. That would indicate costs. I presume it will take up someone's (or a team's) time for at least a few days to create a mirror, and potentially much more.

Yep, and finding out who might know is top priority. Maybe they’ve already thought about this. I hope whomever you’ve emailed knows!

I don’t know, but that is the main question. Andy Casey at Monash might know. I’ll email him as I don’t think he’s on here?

Yeah, I was clicking away on all of them the other day (just, you know, for something to do for no reason at all) and they all just led back to the main site. I'll ask around.

There used to be a mirror at ESO? But maybe it's not been working for a long time now. I think they are well placed to create a new one. Maybe here in Australia, too.

Federal grants are your tax dollars, put into projects that improve and enrich your community and your life. It is not okay for all those projects and the livelihoods of all the people who work to make them happen to be held hostage over some ideological gripe. www.usa.gov/elected-offi...

Anyway, this was a long-winded way of announcing my retirement from political cartooning. As the world is clearly in a much worse state now than when I started I can’t say I’ve helped much and wish you all the best with it.

Makes me giggle every time I remember it!

I still remember, as a kid, our cat doing that when we moved house. Sprinted through the dining room, tried to hit the brakes but slid, rotating slowly for additional comic effect, out of sight into lounge room. THUD into a tower of boxes. Sprinted out other way. Same thing, SMACK into a wall. 😂
