They knew what he is. They chose lies, hate and violence regardless. The ones I know personally did it out of 1) tribalism and wanting to be considered in the “In Group” and 2) thinking they would personally benefit somehow and 3) lack of seriousness and empathy.

They’ve been *told* something is fundamentally broken and that something is that other people not like them having basic rights. No thinking behind this, just lazy bigotry, tribalism and egoism. They chose to believe it because it lets them feel superior.
