Day 2 roadtrip back to New Mexico through a different route. A truly gorgeous, wild part of the country with a lot of Indigenous heritage. Also a lot of very cool retro signage.

I’m on a reporting mission for @hyperallergic.com driving from New Mexico to Colorado! Can’t share what I’m working on yet but can share my lunch of champions: beef jerky and hot pickles.

LA Day 3: a delicious Venice Beach lunch with my journalist buddy Jeffrey Gomez, a catchup with a cousin in Sawtelle, seamless transition into divey LA at HMS Bounty with @lauriestories.bsky.social , and ended the night with a delicious steak! Next up: Albuquerque & Colorado!

LA Day 2 for #AWP! Stylish breakfast, then on the Rewriting History panel with these powerhouse women, reunion with Taiwaneseamerican.org and my cousin @originalsp.in , and my first Waymo ride! (No driver!)

LA Day 1 for AWP! Staying at the hip Line LA hotel with swanky pool deck, met my film agent Rich Green with The Gotham Group (in an old school cinema lot!), short hang in West Hollywood, and Koreatown for dinner! This afternoon: panel at AWP! Who’s here?

Heyyyy LA and #AWP25! Come find me at this woman power panel Friday with illustrious fellow authors like @lauriestories @suzannecope_phd @kayteesal!

Follow Michelle!

An unbelievable gesture from the bookstore P&T Knitwear! I lost my drivers license at Alexis Madrigal’s book launch & not only did they mail it back to me, they sent me a $20 gift card w/ a sweet message “Life is difficult enough for everyone right now, so let’s make it a little sweeter for you.” 😍

This is my 7 year old daughter Charlotte at PS133 in BK. Since Sept '24 she has been attacked by a classmate at school (punched, tackled) & last week he slammed a top of a Lego box onto her face, sent another child to get stitches, and shoved another girl headfirst into a chair.

Last ski weekend, sick new skis. I skied a lot growing up—east coast, west coast. Rediscovered it after 15 years and truly obsessed. After all these years, turns out I’m a mountain person.

Eek! I got the hard copy of my @publisherswkly.bsky.social starred review! "Readers will relish this riveting tale of a clever war hero playing the long game against bumbling fascists." TLDR: May we all be like Rose Valland in our lives.

Congratulations to @alexis-madrigal.bsky.social on the release of his new book THE PACIFIC CIRCUIT, great for anyone interested in cities, urban change, community development, global supply chain. Photos from last night's event with @jennifereganwriter amzn.to/3FFhU8U

The Art Spy by Michelle Young is publishing in less than two months! What if you pre-ordered it?

Meet Rose Valland’s NAZI NEMESES, the shifty and cunning art thieves, including Hitler and Göring, she had to spy on secretly during WWII. Read more about them and Rose in THE ART SPY! michelleyoungwriter.com/theartspy

The books by bestseller Lynne Olson are how I discovered narrative non fiction. To receive this endorsement from her is a dream. "A masterful biography…A gripping account of Valland’s passionate one-woman fight to preserve France’s artistic heritage, THE ART SPY is a must-read.”

This is honestly the best review anybody could give me for my book The Art Spy. French art historian Guillaume Deprez described me as Rose Valland’s advocate and shares how I earned his trust. Follow his Substack! artjourneycurator.substack.com/p/rose-valla...

In my latest for @hyperallergic.com, a look at the devious Nazi looter Bruno Lohse who is spotlighted in a new @PBS.org documentary and also in my new book The Art Spy

This news is so exciting. The Bayeux tapestry makes an entrance multiple times in my book The Art Spy and was one of the most desired works of art the Nazis wanted from France: www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/n...

For #womenshistorymonth, meet Rose Valland, an unsung hero and Resistance spy from WWII and the subject of my new book The Art Spy, coming from @harperonebooks May 13! michelleyoungwriter.com/theartspy

Cannot be more excited to kick off the author series at The Mount, Edith Wharton's house, this summer. I was married there in 2014 and this is just an amazing homecoming! www.berkshireeagle.com/arts_and_cul...

Film shoot for The History Channel today! I’m feeling the best I’ve ever had now that I’m in my 40s. Highly recommend this decade of life ❤️

Thank you to theocbookgirl for including The Art Spy in her Women’s History Month must-read titles! Pre-order it here: buff.ly/3Ps0SN3

What an exciting evening at the Apple Awards, where @untappedny.bsky.social won Outstanding Achievement in NYC Podcast or Radio Program. It's the Oscars of NYC history buffs, hosted by @guidesofnyc! Very honored to accept the award with my co-host and business partner Justin Rivers.

Michelle Yeoh channeling The Art Spy book cover at the Oscars, no? 😍

I love these Art Spy bookmarks my publisher @harperonebooks.bsky.social made for me! Pre-order the book: buff.ly/3Ps0SN3

My latest burning NYC question! Why is the FDR Drive purple?!? Lots of conspiracy theories, only one answer. Thanks to SHoP Architecture for the great conversation on the latest @untappedny.bsky.social podcast!

This is why I don't give my kids a tablet or phone and they're only allowed to watch narrative films on TV at most one a weekend. I've been stopped in restaurants by parents amazed my daughter is reading a book & the kids are staying still, asking for advice. I have suggestions for those interested!

Happy 95th birthday to my amazing grandma! She’s a quiet force of nature who survived WWII starting at 11 years old by eating potatoes for four years. She speaks Japanese, Taiwanese, Mandarin and English and has traveled all over the world. One time I got a letter from Nepal!

Check it out!!! So excited about this.

A new show at the Paris Musée Picasso looks at "Degenerate Art" in the Nazi regime. My book The Art Spy details the 1937 "Degenerate Art" exhibition in Germany and a Degenerate Art auction in 1937 where European and American art dealers and museums purchased works of art

Can't believe it! I have a starred review in Publisher's Weekly for The Art Spy, which calls my book a "riveting tale," writing of my "vivid retelling" and "dramatic recreation of Valland’s war years. "Readers will relish this riveting tale of a clever war hero playing the long game."

Got quoted in @Gothamist talking about The Gates by Christo and Jean-Claude! " Michelle Young, a professor of architecture said that "The Gates" was “the catalyst and the forerunner” of many of today’s immersive public art installations."

For stress relief I made a miniature version of my book cover with a nod to the gold frame in the design! Pre-order The Art Spy: https://buff.ly/3Ps0SN3

Wow! 250 attendees at the online seminar today I was asked to be a part of to discuss @elysegraham.bsky.social book Book and Dagger! Hosted by the American Historical Association and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars!

I'll be on the panel for this virtual event Monday afternoon hosted by the American Historical Society & Woodrow Wilson Center, with author Elyse Graham ("Book and Dagger") and historian Helen Fry who has written much about WWII spycraft. Hope to see you there! https://buff.ly/4hKX7yd

Just did a very fun interview with France 2 TV channel for an upcoming documentary about Rose Valland! Airing in a few months. Cameraman Bertrand Guez came up from DC to shoot and turned my living room into a great set and the journalist interviewed me by FaceTime!

“I will provide a propagandistic 'casus belli'. Its credibility does not matter, for the victor will not be asked whether he told the truth or not.” - Hitler, August 1939 (a quote i included in my book The Art Spy)

Thank you Theresa!!!
