It is important that people understand and accept as fact that our government is compromised. I don't mean compromised in some cloak-and-dagger sense, I simply mean that this government no longer accepts core democratic principles and is angling toward an autocracy that's part of a New Axis of Evil.

I do think it’s hard to sustain a narrative of “America first” when the main beneficiary of your actions is an adversarial foreign state that offers you basically nothing in return.

worth saying again that this was a bait and switch. if trump had openly announced he was running on allowing companies to discriminate against women and minorities he would not have won wapo.st/43aVQg1

I know. They’re not going to stop. They’re sociopaths. It’ll keep getting worse until the nation collapses. Increasingly I see other historians, biographers, and attorneys coming to the same realization, after years of scoffing at those of us who have long called Trump a clear and present danger.

I'm struggling to get over what we saw today. The amount of gaslighting, cruelty, ignorance, abject cowardice, arrogance, indifference to human life, and deceit we saw from Trump and Vance...we saw behavior we associate with enemies of the United States inside the Oval Office. That's traumatizing.

So, America. How many of you who voted for Trump are happy to be on Putin’s side?

Republicans should just rename themselves RePutinCans at this point. GOP stands for Good ol’ Putin, doesn’t it?

Withdraw the state visit invitation to Trump. Offer one to Zelensky instead. With bells and fucking whistles.

Zelenskyy is by far the better man. Trump and Vance, by comparison, are petulant, craven juveniles.

You have to hand it to Putin, Russia’s foreign policy has been very successful. Sowing division in Europe, and getting an invitation to a UK state visit for one of his agents.

It's so good: eloquent, tightly argued, gracious and ultimately quite damning.

Continuing a long pattern of saying precisely what Vladamir Putin wants him to say. (The statement of course is totally false as a historical matter.)

Having seen the recent Trump clips (I’m thinking of his weird Gaza one (which, if nothing else, is a salutary warning of some of the potential problems of AI) and the ones featuring the giggling jester Lutnick and RFK looking as though he was regretting selling his soul (assuming he still had one/1

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Striking that everyone I know who actually likes President, er, “Krasnov” have stopped posting about their love/acclamation/support of him.

At this point, I think it’d be best for everyone concerned (i.e. the world) if, in the name of governmental efficiency, that DOGE should now to sack the President and, next, itself and its leader.

This story can't be repeated enough. The GOP is lined up behind the guy who is so incompetent that his quasi-gov't agency did this. They're confirming his highly questionable nominees & hurting the American people. And "accidentally"? It was stupidity, not accident. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

We’re going to have to face it: our chief ally has gone across to the other side.

Put aside the nastiness of this post, & the way in he attacks Zelenskyy as a dictator but says not a word about his pal Putin, & just focus on the way it is written: would you hire this weird person to work for you? Would you trust this odd person to teach your kid in school?

If you’d asked AI to write a piece of Russian propaganda in the style of Donald Trump, this is what you’d get. Well done America, you’ve elected a Russian asset as your President.

Feels a bit like Jan 6, except this time without the naïve belief that everyone would abandon Trump once his depravity became undeniable.

I hear Nigel Farage is declining interview requests. First time for everything, I suppose. I suspect he’ll eventually speak to whoever is least likely to challenge him properly.

Scrap austerity – tax the super-rich instead. Britain can’t rebuild with more cuts – a wealth tax on the richest is the fair alternative to funding public services and growth.

Did you hear about these 20 government actions? No? That’s the problem. The media aren’t telling you what’s happening. @stephenmcnair.bsky.social reports

Mike Pence just reposted an old article he wrote about the limitations on the powers of a president. For some reason. Here is a part of it.

How wonderful to be in a special relationship when your significant other is on the other side.

Quite clearly, the Labour WhatsApp group was horrendous and the people involved should have known, and behaved., better. But I do wish the people commenting, and criticising, had better memories. Labour has acted, suspending and sacking as required. I can remember Tories not even suspending MPs/1

Just had a wild experience I'd like to share. I tool the bike out for a while around the back roads of the Franklin district in Auckland to get some throttle therapy and fresh air. I was going at a decent, but legal pace, when I came upon a car stopped pretty much in the middle of the road 1/

“We only have one more chance left to save the West and we can do great things together.” Ugh. These dickhead-egomaniacs are out of control. They shouldn’t be able to threaten our democracy like this. Not everything is for sale, you loathsome bastards. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...
