Strange things afoot in Cwmparc. An insightful write up of the protest and recent events from @ebenmyrddin.bsky.social It’s really sad to see the loss of this access. This was my after school escape route to the hills back in the mid 1990’s. And before that my father’s playground

Deadline this Friday (remember it's UK time/GMT)!

For the past 4 years we have been rearing Marsh Fritillary butterflies to help save a population in South Wales. Its always an amazing feeling (and a bit of a relief) when you see the first larval webs sunbathing in the rearing pens after hibernation. Hopefully 2025 will be a bumper year for them.

This is very good. Clear and succinct.

The final upcoming professional training session for Lost Peatlands is on Wednesday, and it’s online so you can join from all over the world if you want to. This one is focused on effective communication from Smirk Experience. Link at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lp-pro-tra...

Wetlands are vitally important for waterbirds. 🦢 Research involving BTO suggests that the management of protected areas in Europe can aid wintering #waterbirds species in shifting their ranges north as the climate warms. 🌍 Read more ➡️ bit.ly/ResearchWater... #WorldWetlandsDay #Ornithology

For another #WorldWetlandsDay focussed post here’s a couple of highlights from my trip to the Glamorgan Archives last year to look for some peat and people interactions over the years from south Wales. One from Llyn Fawr and one from East Moors Steelworks in Cardiff. More detail in the alt text!

I didn’t manage to actually take any photos of the #LostPeatlands celebration event, but I’m grateful someone managed to get this photo of @mikeshewring.bsky.social wondering what the hell I’m talking about

#Lostpeatlands celebration tonight.

1 YEAR OF 20MPH There were around 100 fewer people killed / seriously injured on 20/30mph roads. Casualties from July-Sept was the lowest Q3 figures in Wales since records began. Over the year the number of casualties on 20/30mph roads is 28% lower than the year before. Good policy making.

So @gowerbirds.bsky.social are here. Any other Welsh bird groups here yet? Felly mae @gowerbirds.bsky.social yma. Unrhyw grwpiau adar arall o Gymru yma? 🤔 #birdingwales

Stop worrying about bats and newts? No Rachel Reeves MP – start worrying about the future of our economy if we tear down the nature it depends on. Nature isn’t a blocker; it’s the foundation of growth.

Next session and what I think is the highlight of the day and the real success of the project, our community and education officer Sarah is talking about how #LostPeatlands worked with local schools and communities to bring peatlands to the people

Next up in the people session Alison from Coed Lleol (Small Woods) is talking about the #LostPeatlands health and wellbeing programmes which Katie our community health and wellbeing officer has been delivering throughout the project

Starting off the presentations for the #LostPeatlands conference with Dr Charles Hipkin’s history of the landscape. I’ve heard Charles speak on this landscape many times and always learn something new

Robin Cox from Vattenfall is next up in the #LostPeatlands conference programme to take us through the Pen y Cymoedd wind farm habitat management plan and the peatland restoration that has taken place to date

Dr Pete Jones, the Bog-father, has travelled all the way down from Anglesey to South Wales to speak for the #LostPeatlands conference about the National Peatland Action Plan, and the progress towards peatland restoration targets in Wales

Currently three Lost Peatlands training events in Jan if anyone needs something to look forward to in the new year. One on communication by Smirk Experience, one on peat in the planning process and one on bryophyte ecology & surveys from the LP team (which we have no poster for yet, sorry!)

This is a great time of year to appreciate waders. Why is Wales a special place for waders, from Woodcock in the woods to Curlew on the coast? wadertales.wordpress.com/2017/01/13/w... Lots of info about amber- and red-listed species in Wales. #birdingWales

More than a year ago we started with the idea of using an adaptive multi-modal fusion model 🤖 for crop yield prediction 🌽🌿. This is because each source of information might provide better crop-related information than others depending on each case (region/time/data quality) 🤓
