I believe the firings and the AI have the same purpose: to get humans out of the loop of evaluating contracts. To automate the process of spending government money. To rig up a computer that sends taxpayer dollars directly to the broligarchy.

At its heart, the show is about a group of people who love one another in the only world they know. Like family. Which is so appropriate cuz it was written by a guy who based these characters on his family. I think that should resonate with just about everyone.
