"if it's a good work in a genre i don't like, it's a deconstruction, if it's a good work in a genre i think i shouldn't like but do, it's a reconstruction."

On TVTropes, it means "literally anything but the most rote possible regurgitation of an idea." "Character has superpowers but they have downsides sometimes"? Deconstruction. "Character faces consequences for their actions"? Deconstruction. You get the idea.

He's saying that Adi Shankar and Max Landis both cast themselves as fun relatable nerdy guys moving up in the world, but they're actually narcissistic nepo-baby assholes who had maybe one good thing in them. "Echo Fighter" is the Smash Ultimate term for a clone character.

realistically if you gave a planetary governor or a high lord of terra or something a button that says "push this button to kill a million humans to kill one eldar" they would hammer that shit

"the eldar would sacrifice a million humans to save one eldar" mfs when you ask how many eldar the imperium would sacrifice

From what I remember, it was because people thought the "Kermit riding a bike" scene in the first movie was really impressive when it was actually one of the easier effects. So they decided to show how easy it was by having a dozen or so Muppets riding bikes at once.

being a democratic party member is a lot like being a fan of dc comics in that despite most everything they have being fundamentally solid and liked, the organization could come in second in a one-person race

tbh it's kind of the opposite, most of the criticism Chrono Cross gets is its connection to Trigger (namely, the fact that it's connected to Trigger in a really weird, half-assed way that kind of ruins that game's story and characters).

In that it's undeniably very competent but it also kind of gets a pass compared to some of its peers because it's made by white people?

Well, no, they need you to scroll down first, so it's more like "Many people are flocking to see the new Mission Impossible, starring Tom Cruise. It has left many people wondering if there is some kind of teaser or post-credit stinger, as is common.

If anything, 64 is kind of the opposite of going in a weird direction. It's essentially "Doom with some tweaks, a new campaign, and scrunched down a bit to fit on the Nintendo 64."

the really amazing thing was that a lot of people who first discovered the game discovered it in japanese, which meant they didn't know the game has an upgrade system--not using upgrades takes the game from tricky to borderline impossible. this created a rumor that the japanese version is harder.

Starmer is that brand of liberal who believes that the most electable politician is "I'm willing do everything my supposed opposition does, but unlike them, I'm not doing it because I believe in it, but rather to fit in with the cool kids."

I think there are two kinds of Robot Chicken joke: "haha, hey that was actually pretty funny" and "what if character from children's media said the fuck word and had sex and did drugs and got shot and died, that would be uncharacteristic"

it was a metaphorical death because the comic was about him stepping down from leadership, and optimus prime was the name he only assumed when he became leader.

And you could argue 3 before that, what with the Hard Knuckle (though really, that's just a standard projectile that incidentally looks like a rocket punch).

a lot of people draw lucario to have a muzzle because once you realize it has a giant nose it kind of ruins the design, but no, that's consistently how it's been drawn since the beginning
comment in response to
post
lucario does have a defined nose, however it also does not have a muzzle. the thing that looks like a muzzle is actually a giant nose, with the mouth being completely disconnected from it.

quest 64 is one of the great examples of how "cult classic" can actually just mean "there is a sector of people who were not exposed to anything better growing up."

like, he's had a lot of chances, and some very acclaimed books, but also they never quite seem to be enough to push him into the A-list, and he's spent a lot of the past decade-plus languishing. even the 2000s resurgence of cosmic marvel didn't do a lot with him.

silver surfer is kind of interesting as comic characters go because he's never been especially successful, as either a solo character or a team member, but he also seems to have been stan lee's favorite character and it really showed whenever lee wrote him.
comment in response to
post
as someone who likes the silver surfer but isn't a superfan of him, it's very much a case of "i don't hate it, i'm also not really sure why they did it." feels kinda like they just felt they needed to genderflip somebody and picked a random character that they didn't consider particularly important.

I think you once joked that Zune was a Mary Sue, because she does fit that definition, but really, Zune isn't a Mary Sue so much as just a character who happens to not have any big standout flaws.

Now I'm curious about some of these squares. Which would you say is a discarded or deleted OC, and which one would you say is a Mary Sue?

It's very much a case, common to Stone-Parker stories, of "American imperialism is bad, but also some people are annoying about it being bad, so really it kind of evens out."

Star Trek: Enterprise. People talked even back then about how Archer felt like "George Bush in space", and major plot points involved a massive attack that caused a war and an evil faction called the Suliban.
