Marx couldn't have predicted the extraordinary capacity for mass disavowal ("yeah, the guy is breaking the rules... but we love him nevertheless!") that we see today. The contradictions in capitalism and its eventual metamorphosis into fascism don't seem to matter all that much to most people.
