ELON IS ALLOWED IN THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. NOT YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OR STUDENTS & PARENTS. I WILL BE BACK.

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Now might be an excellent time to remind everyone that the evidence of demand-side benefit fraud in the US (i.e., from claimants) is incredibly weak. While benefit fraud happens, in health and welfare policy sectors, it's overwhelmingly coming from supply-side (organizations, contractors, etc.) 1/

Among the many avenues Democrats need to be pushing *now* is: Trump, Musk, and their Republican enablers just compromised the personal and financial info of every American. This isn't hyperbole; it already happened. They broke all the cybersecurity protocols and are concealing what they're doing.

is it good or bad that a billionaire oligarch with close ties to foreign dictators is currently downloading the most sensitive information the us federal government has about its citizens to his own private servers?

Today is Fred Korematsu Day in California and a few other states. A reminder to always fight for your civil rights and those of our fellow humans. 🌸

i have written about this before but i have become extremely civic republican virtue pilled as a result of all of this. democracy will not work without an active effort to cultivate virtue among ordinary people!

Montgomery County Public Schools comes out and tells Trump to pound sand with his EO telling schools that they have to discriminate against transgender students. This is how you refuse to comply.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

This is Phyllis Fong. I very much respect that she made them physically remove her from her office, which remains hers by right, because she hasn’t been legally terminated.

Concentration camps preceded extermination camps by several years. They began in Germany just as administratively, just as innocuously, as this. It's important to understand the historical track we are on.

the correct response to being told to build a concentration camp is "absolutely the fuck not" regardless of the legality of the order

Everybody bow down to @marisakabas.bsky.social and her newsletter which broke the biggest federal government/political story since forever last night?

🚨NEW from @bbkogan.bsky.social: Trump's spending freeze is a disaster for Americans. It makes things like housing more expensive. It slashes health care and other benefits. And a whole lot more chaos. This is his extreme Project 2025 plan in action: www.americanprogress.org/article/trum...

Federal workers protect your rights. They protect the food you eat, water you drink. They provide care when you age, health care, life saving research, they pave your roads, protect our troops, protect us when we lose work. What Trump is doing is a direct attack on America.

Judge AliKhan is a fantastic member of the Federal Judiciary. Glad she's on the bench for so many different reasons. Confirmed 51-50 in a deeply divided Senate in 2023. The work we have done on our courts in the last four years is deeply and critically important.

The EO on gender affirming care for people under 19 is now available on the White House website www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Donald Trump has just released a national under 18 trans care ban executive order. I am working through specifically how it tries to do this, and will live tweet here section by section as I read through it. It is not yet on the website, but has been released via press release.

This morning, we learned that President Trump fired Board Member Gwynne Wilcox, whose Senate-confirmed term runs until 2028. This move must be called out for what it is—a frontal assault on the NLRB, its employees, workers, and the very idea of an independent civil service. 🚨

President Donald Trump fired one of the Democratic commissioners on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission late on Monday night in a move that experts said violated legal statute. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-f...

How many moms won't be able to show up for work tomorrow because he cut off the funding for the Head Start programs they rely on for childcare?

For the KY and Cincinnati folks: that means you’re not getting the Brent Spence Bridge back any time soon.

Whenever people ask me what I want to be when I grow up, I always say “become Rosa DeLauro”

gotta go with "trump illegally stops funding for housing and home heating assistance during the middle of winter"

Got the list of programs affected in the memo - it includes SNAP and WIC. Literally taking food away from hungry families. Completely unconscionable.

Just got off the phone with a medical provider who accepts Medicaid. Because they are shut out from the Medicaid portal, they might not be able to make payroll. They exclusively serve low-income Floridians.

Multiple states locked out of the Medicaid portal. Chaos for Americans who depend on federal programs for necessities as basic as paying their heating bills in the winter. This is Trump's America.

I'm a former OMB official and this is absolutely true. And let's also not forget that these illegal actions have direct, harmful consequences for actual people. New moms won't get help feeding their infants. Small businesses won't make payroll. People could lose their jobs, their homes.

There is simply no plausible argument that the president has the constitutional authority to refuse to spend appropriated funds because he doesn’t like how the money is being spent. The legality of policy impoundments is just not a close question.

One key point here: OMB's *internal* communication said to pause a bunch of programs, while its *external* communication claimed it wasn't doing anything.

Senators’ phones have been ringing off the hook with nonstop calls from hospitals, police departments, volunteer firefighters, food pantries, drug treatment centers, on and on and on.

President Trump firing @nlrbgov.bsky.social member Gwynne Wilcox, the first Black woman on the Board, is illegal and has effectively shut down the NLRB’s operations, leaving the workers it defends on their own. aflcio.org/press/releas...

BREAKING: A set of nonprofits and a small business organization sue OMB over Monday's grants/loans "pause," seeking a temporary restraining order. The groups are represented by @democracyforward.bsky.social. Complaint: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Not to be alarmist, but this is the most radical presidential action I've ever seen. He's straight up seizing Congress' budget power. What do laws matter if the mad king's whims dictate what gets enforced and where money goes? It's not a policy memo - it's a revolution. Don't let it be a quiet one.

This is 100% illegal. It’s a new escalation in Trump’s battle for absolute control over the administrative state. Federal law explicitly protects Wilcox against termination. That law is constitutional under binding Supreme Court precedent. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Trump’s OMB has ordered a freeze on all federal assistance. This is more than an illegal and authoritarian power grab—it’s a direct attack on the well-being of millions of Americans, jeopardizing healthcare, food assistance, and economic stability. Statement from Groundwork's Kitty Richards ⬇️

it is very telling of these guys’ conception of how power works that they see issuing a flurry of executive orders as evidence of presidential strength and vigor and not a sign that the president is too weak to pursue a serious legislative agenda

their view is that high status jobs ought to belong to white men, who exist at the top of a natural hierarchy

One thing about me is that I will fight Nazis until I’m six feet in the ground.

They're talking about cutting working-class Americans' health care to pay for tax cuts for the top 2%. punchbowl.news/article/hous...

Not just unusual. It’s unprecedented. It’s a seismic reordering of American government and an actual instance of the “weaponization” of the DOJ that the Republicans were heretofore so fond of complaining about (when it wasn’t happening).

Trump's freezing of all civil rights cases at the DOJ is not part of an anti-DEI agenda, but an anti-civil rights agenda. DOJ was *founded* to protect Black rights during Reconstruction. That this difference is unclear speaks to the success of conservative propagandists and the failures of liberals.

This is what stealing an election looks like. It doesn’t involve any conspiracy theories about rigging voting machines in the dark of night—it happens out in the open. All you need are judges who care not about the rule of law but about ramming through their preferred partisan outcomes.
