Terrible waste…

This is the ultimate dick boss move from Musk - except he isn’t even the boss, he’s just a dick.

Good for these federal workers, concerned about the sabotage of a functioning, safe park, for us and for nature. www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

I posted this longer version on X #Emails2DOGE cc: [email protected]

2 PhD students recently met at a conference & Trump's slashing of research & science bound them With only 3 other scientists they started a movement that's growing around the country On March 7 in Washington DC, and state capitals, "Stand Up for Science" will take place All details below & bravo!

This is how I would respond to the email Musk has had sent to government employees (not legal advice). 1. Refused to violate the law. 2. Refused to violate the Constitution. 3. Refused to bow or scrape. 4. Refused to bend a knee. 5. Deleted this stupid email.

Love it…

Sending an email to employees asking them to list five things they did that week is a classic move from a manager who has no idea how to manage

📣 NEW: BEGUN, THE INDEXING OF THE NIH WEBSITE ARCHIVE HAS. Unfortunately I wasn't able to grab the NIH content until last week so it's possible that some of it had already been disappeared, but this includes anything which was there as of 2/13/25: acasignups.net/nih-website

Seriously scary! @theaacr.bsky.social @aacicancer.bsky.social

Oddly relieved that the world is not as crazy as one would think of you look at Twitter on occasion…

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

Yet another small, but happy moment.

I love this right now. It’s the little things :-)

Biden capped insulin at $35/mo -- Republicans are now undoing it Biden capped inhaler at $35/mo -- Republicans are now undoing it Biden stopped banks from hurting you with overdraft fees -- Republicans are now undoing it Trump, Musk, and the GOP are RAISING your costs

The cost-saving claims don’t hold up. Every dollar in NIH research grants generates $2.46 in economic activity, research shows—a total of $93 billion in 2023 alone. “It’s incredible to me that we would give up this thing that has such obvious societal benefits,” says biologist Mark Peifer.

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

Black History Month, Public Health Edition Dr. Sherman James lead important social epidemiological research on the long term effects of coping against adversity of structural racism on health, and coined the term "John Henryism". #blackhistorymonth

Don’t know if anyone else read the letter and caught that it contradicts the majority opinion in SFFA, which allows discussion of racial identities in essays to be used as a factor in admissions. They’re trying to rewrite an already very conservative SCOTUS opinion www.ed.gov/media/docume...

It’s sad on the eve of Presidents Day it’s appropriate to have to post this.

The Veterans crisis line?!?!?! Again, how is this making anything great??? 😡😡😡

Time to evict AirBnB from your life, if you have't already.

Residents in Cancer Alley are bracing for the destructive power of Donald Trump’s second term. Tentative reform, achieved after years of grinding advocacy, could be reversed. My piece from Reserve, Louisiana: www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Key line from ED Dept "Dear Colleague" letter: "This guidance does not have the force and effect of law and does not bind the public or create new legal standards." Ed.gov/media/109506 Letter coercively threatens fed. funding based on misstatements of law. States can't just ignore but must resist.

This is a travesty to science and the future of our nation.

I have been talking to the media, Time, Fortune, NBC, etc., to explain how the onslaught on science and NIH will impact the health of all Americans. Everyone knows someone who has cancer, heart disease, or depression. Spread the word about how cutting science impacts all. time.com/7216299/nih-...

House Republicans can impeach as many federal judges as they want, but it requires a TWO-THIRDS vote in the Senate to actually remove a judge. And that's not happening. Not a single judge will be removed. Any Republican impeachment attempts against judges are just a stunt.

Ffs, America, wake up! When leaders from European countries call for a summit to deal with the comments of a president and his administrative officers, it has gone far beyond, trump is an idiot rhetoric. Macron calls for a summit of European leaders on Monday. www.politico.eu/article/macr...

This is what higher ed administrators are reading this weekend. Basically, anything that could be perceived as involving race could result in the loss of federal funding. It's an expansive Dear Colleague letter from ED, to be sure. www.ed.gov/media/docume...

"As out of fashion as it is to talk this way, we are all really in this together. Academia and industry do different things most of the time, and we each benefit from that. And that’s why the silence from industry about what’s going on with the NIH et al. is so infuriating."

This is corruption on a scale unseen before in American history. www.dropsitenews.com/p/elon-musk-...

I have work to do but I'm distracted by watching US scientific progress & leadership being irreversibly undermined because a few unelected malcontents are penalizing researchers for following legal requirements set out by congressional orders to augment basic research with benefits to society.

Barely three weeks in, and a single, solid order from a highly respected federal judge, and they already are hinting at ignoring judicial orders, the ultimate constitutional crisis. Trump and Vance as Thelma and Louise speeding up and driving car over the cliff. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...

The United States by virtue of a bipartisan commitment to biomedical research created one of the most vibrant, productive research ecosytems in the world. People came from all over to study here, do research here. It was a monumental accomplishment by both parties. 1/

How many Americans rely on Medicaid or CHIP in *your* Congressional District? PLEASE SHARE THIS EVERYWHERE. ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL INFORMATION. CHARLES GABA IS AMAZING!

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

Donald Trump has already committed at least 23 potential illegalities, in only 16 days 🧵 1. Freezing funding for Medicaid and all other federal assistance programs 2. Revoking birthright citizenship 3. Using “expedited removal” to deport immigrants with zero due process

I’m going to run a series of posts about the NIH/NSF/etc. troubles concurrently with my usual science posts. I can’t and won’t ignore the former, but I need the latter for mental equilibrium.

My latest. As journalists and writers, we have a duty to use language that is accurate and describes our current reality. I’m no longer going to talk about DEI/Anti-DEI. Let’s be clear. We are facing racial purges and re-segregation. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
