All the folks who exited NBC today. Seen together, hoo boy. Message received.

In rushing to comply with Trump’s executive actions, universities support a segregationist agenda, Subini Annamma and David Stovall write, via @insidehighered.com. #AcademicSky #HigherEd #Trump

Great talk at the University of San Francisco today. Kaling spoke about her mentors, her formative lessons as a child of immigrants who countered discrimination in the US & how her confidence stems from being super prepared, doing her best & using her platform to uplift others @usfca-pr.bsky.social

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

W.E.B. Du Bois on the white takeover of southern public schools after Reconstruction. Not a coincidence that the chapter, "Back Towards Slavery," follows his analysis of the eventual dedegration of the public school system. Attacks on education are vital to (re)instituting authoritarian rule.

Filming ICE? “Law enforcement may not search your cell phone or other device without a warrant…you may refuse a request from an officer to review or delete what you recorded. You also may refuse to unlock your phone”

With a measles outbreak growing in West Texas, and cases popping up across the country, experts say vaccination is your best protection. And it's not just for kids. Some adults may need a booster.

What an absolutely beautiful graphic novel about a young refugee from Somalia - highly recommend

Fellow book lovers! There is a better way to buy our books than Amazon. Instead of putting $ in Bezos' pocket, every purchase on @bookshop-org.bsky.social financially supports independent bookstores. You can even select the bookstore you'd like to support.

More of this. The fuck are you doing promoting a book when the country is falling apart?

Don’t stop doing the things you love, loving the people you love and showing that love in acts of communal care because you’re afraid. Fear is how they thrive. Community. Care. Joy and Love is how we rebel. 🌈 💙✊🏽#communityasrebellion

The Trump administration is rolling back protections for Haitian migrants in the U.S., allowing hundreds of thousands of people to be targeted for deportations this summer, the Department of Homeland said.

Tyranny is spreading its long shadow, again, over Kashmir. Interesting how the West does not make a sound of disapproval - yet another case of turning a blind eye on repression when practised by its allies www.aljazeera.com/gallery/2025...

NPR host Adrian Ma's girlfriend, Kiah Duggins, was aboard the American Airlines flight that crashed into the Potomac River. He spoke to NPR about that night and about his late girlfriend.

Okay so you know I like to remind everyone how the American immigration system has been cruel for a very long time. But loading people on flights to deport them to countries that they are not from, like Iranians to Panama, is not business as usual.

Asylum seekers are deported to Panama, locked in a hotel without access to counsel, and then sent to a jungle detention camp which one migrant described as “a zoo with cages.” Among them are 8 children. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/w...

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

"Money & fame can shield you from only so much when it comes to American imperialism. They can’t even get you--as in Benito’s case, when he cast his ballot in San Juan--the right to vote for president." I understand why these stories exist but it’s important to be clear that he’s not “saving” 16 billion, he’s choosing, personally, without oversight, to wipe out 16 billion dollars of government services to veterans and the disabled and food safety etc etc

Feb. 28, buy only from small, independent businesses, not massive companies, especially avoiding Amazon, Walmart & Best Buy. Raise awareness of the enormous power of our collective action & set the stage for bigger future actions. #WeHaveThePower

Imagine being rich enough to do anything you want and choosing to take food and medicine from starving children to give yourself even more money.

For 16 years, U.S. aviation had a perfect record—ZERO major commercial plane crashes. Then Trump returned and in just 29 days the USA has had seven crashes, 15 aviation disasters, and 85 dead, on pace for this over 1,000 dead this year via plane crash.

Here's a messaging toolkit if people want to use it to create your own handouts to share with your communities. Thanks for sharing Anat.

We don’t want “SpaceX engineers” We want trained, competent air traffic controllers, ground crew personnel and people well versed in making sure the public can fly safely Which hasn’t happened ever since President Musk and his flunky Trump forced out FAA Chief Michael Whitaker

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out. They gut the FAA. Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted. Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

At an elementary school at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, home of the 101st Airborne, librarians are scrubbing the shelves. They are removing books that even contain references to slavery or the civil rights movement. This is where "anti DEI" sentiment has brought us. They are whitewashing history.

The Trump administration has just announced that all college financial aid programs, scholarships, prizes, housing, and graduation ceremonies that help Black or Latino students are now considered to be illegal. The Education Department accuses colleges of discriminating against white students.

We have two job openings in the Media Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. Non tenure-track, of interest for those who work in cultural studies or critical media, don't mind a full-time lecture schedule, and enjoy working with grad TAs. It's a three-year renewable post. Please circulate!

Great resource for thinking about how to organize in this moment from Mariame Kaba ⬇️

SCOOP: The top US election security watchdog has frozen all of its efforts to aid states in securing elections. The move represents the first major example of the country’s cyber defense agency accommodating Trump’s false claims of election fraud and online censorship.

Even worse incompetence: they accidentally fired, then apparently today un-fired, hundreds of the people who manage America's nuclear weapons.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

“Universities have become hedge funds that offer classes…”

“Normalize Indian hate” in exchange for … a seat on the board of the Kennedy Center. May Usha Vance reap every last grain of what she’s sowing.

A measles outbreak in Gaines County, Texas, is growing, with 24 cases and at least 14 hospitalizations—mainly among children. Low vaccination rates are fueling the crisis. Outbreaks like this will become more common as vaccine misinformation spreads and laws weaken immunization requirements.

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.
