To be fair, the American business community likely drove that expertise away from the US because they were looking for cheaper labor costs. China made a decision to develop the technological capability on spec. The US could make similar investments. This is not a defense of Trump’s tariffs.

I think that Trump’s business model is mostly grifting is telling here. He doesn’t understand complexity, he is just good at extracting rents. Someone who was knowledgeable about manuf or at least curious enough to learn could figure this out, and find productive ways to boost local production.

Hey you can’t expect the average American to understand that level of complex mathematics. I mean P ÷ S, how would you even compute that? Probably need some fancy super computer.

I don’t think that they are inherently unreliable sources. The problem is they can be trained to be unreliable through the same methods that would be used to make them reliable. You just have to have the right motivations. Musk is clearly trying to manipulate the weights.

I’ve been working with the assumption that Musk’s maximum truth seeking AI was always going to be about reinforcing his already established truths. This has basically proven that theory, and means I will never use Grok. The same story with free speech and Twitter, it was always about his speech.

His unease and non-answer on the cabinet nominees is infuriating. This is why we need change. He’s talking about effective policy and science when we are in a crisis. Yeah, that stuff will be important again hopefully, but right now we need people who are focused on saving democracy. Do that!

Yeah, but that was because Hillary is a woman. White men are capable of managing the risks associated with unsecured communications platforms because of meritocracy.

If true, it would still be just as big a scandal for the administration. Arguably it would be worse, as it would demonstrate the extreme vulnerability of the platform to hacking. They don’t even know how to craft an effective lie at this point.

Maybe it’s time to stop steelmanning their theories with conservative guests who are willfully ignoring reality, and work towards something more constructive.

Biden should have been more supportive of the get rich by gambling agenda?

This should scare investors even more. The fact that the government is trying to pump a stock means they see real risk, even before we think about the insanity of the situation.

Same for the anti-woke crowd when they realize it’s just straight up racism and bigotry on offer from this administration.

This chart is a narrative crafted entirely by right wing propaganda. I don’t mean to say that democrats don’t talk about these issues, but are forced to defend common decency and basic facts because their counterparts in our system are willing to outright lie about these topics.

But we already knew that right? He was always more interested in being around and respected by powerful people. Same for his voters, they know he doesn’t have grand plans to help them, he represents destruction to a system they no longer care about.

Why do I get the feeling that Trump means himself when he says the US government? What would the government even do with ownership over a social media platform?

As someone who felt they got more out of lectures than the reading material, I welcome this.

But Bluesky doesn’t force the “for you” feed on you. So you have more control over your experience. I think that makes a big deference if you are going to start getting more unwanted content on the other sites.

No, the point of false accusations is to provide "both sides do it" cover for his supporters.

Clearly not, if you are taking the experiences of trans individuals seriously.

The biggest issue, is that this topic is that it suffers from a lack of research, so most opinions are imprecisely derived. What if a person with a male body has a female brain, which should govern? Research suggests this could be the case
comment in response to

The easy thing to do would realize this is a culture war talking point and let sporting organizations evaluate how the <.01% of trans athletes fit into their sport. Hopefully with a science driven approach.

Transgender identity.
comment in response to

I’m also tired of people using trans athletes as a crutch for essentially an anti-trans argument. Not saying you are, but too many people make it seem like people choose to be transgender in order to gain an edge in sports, which is an insane notion.
comment in response to
post
Who is arguing differently? If the trans community was arguing that biological sex was a construct, why would you need the term trans? By saying we should have freedom and acceptance but not ignore metaphysical reality you seem to be saying it is choice. Do we have enough research to say that?

This is such a ridiculous article. The end, “[The Atlantic] is reported to be profitable, unlike The Post. However, Bezos' wealth estimated by Forbes at $235 billion, far outstrips that of Powell Jobs, at $16.1 billion”

When Trump appoints his people, he’s not appointing our best. He’s appointing people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.
