The "campus free speech" and "cancel culture" panics were obvious efforts to seed the ground for a huge expansion of left-wing censorship and right-wing propaganda. That effort appears to have worked.

My Bay Area colleague, @repkevinmullin.bsky.social, came to the House Floor — post-surgery — using a walker, to vote NO on the budget. Rep. Pettersen brought her newborn from Colorado to vote NO. We’re pulling out all the stops—@housedemocrats.bsky.social are not going down without a fight.

i keep seeing the right argue that the nazi salutes are "trolling." i think there's some truth to that, but know what exactly is being mocked. they aren't mocking the idea that they could be nazis, they're mocking the idea that they should care one way or the other.

So they removed the black chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the middle of his 4-year tour, without cause, and they're seeking to replace him with a white **retired** Air Force three-star general who lacks the requisite experience as a service chief or combatant commander? Huh, how about that

The worst thing about the last month is literally every day someone will post something like this and I don’t even know which thing they’re talking about

This is the rhetoric driving the gender counter-revolution. It creates the (mis)perception that feminists are the oppressors and that men are the ones under attack.

This is just to say I have fired the bureaucrats throughout your government Even the ones that were probably keeping planes in the air Forgive me I am not very smart So efficiency Much savings

I’m not getting on another plane until Pete Buttigieg himself tells me the pilots are woke enough to keep us in the sky

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

it is beyond clear that for many americans trump is a blank slate who stands for whatever they personally want

The last time I was in Louisiana, I was working on a story about St. James Parish were industry pollution has caused the predominantly Black population to explode with cancer cases.

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

No, it’s Trump’s fault, and the fault of his army of Nazi bigots, who explicitly build their politics around tormenting the weak for fun. Trans people were simply the most vulnerable target. After they’re gone any of you might be next. None of this repulsive apologia, fight back

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

Government workers when DOGE shows up.

Weird how not a single one of the newspapers and magazines that have been breathlessly churning out "cancel culture" thinkpieces for the past four years have managed to use the word "censorship" at all to describe the most rapid and comprehensive campaign of mass-censorship in recent US history.

I know the “imagine if a Democrat did this” is overplayed, but if a Democratic president had given George Soros access to government personnel details and Treasury payments I’m pretty sure we’d have a literal civil war.

you can also identify pros and cons for right-wing death squads. I mean, probably some drug overdoses would be prevented. the ability to identify some marginal benefit to an extreme, insane, horrific right-wing endeavor doesn't mean you need to validate that endeavor with good-faith public debate

i’m very open to ChatGPT having some utility. but a few times for If Books Could Kill i’ve asked ChatGPT to aggregate existing sources of criticism for a book. what it produces are without fail almost entirely hallucinations. and not just one, i mean lists of 5-6 articles that do not exist.

Ah yes, the fundamental error of the Dem mind: assuming that the public is somehow directly observing politics, and that the Democratic role is to react to the public's reaction, rather than help SHAPE the public's reaction

Isn't the actual headline story of the Trump administration so far that he's doing Project 2025 word for word?

Respectfully (and I genuinely mean this), I’ve never heard a single regular person ask for “bipartisanship.” That’s inside nonsense. They want things to work. If the other party refuses to work for people, be the ones who will. Fight for people. Make it plain who isn’t, and who THEY’RE for.

It is the year of our Lord 2025. How do 40+ of my coworkers (and counting!) not know that replying “please remove me from this list” on an accidental mass reply-all event is NOT helpful?!
