if you're looking for something funny to watch may i suggest every episode of Detroiters

one of the best novels of the last few years! i've got 2 or 3 extras. buy any of my books from me and i'll add one in for free, if you've been meaning to pick 'em up! (or you can think of it as buying a copy of gloria patri from me and i'll throw in one of my own for free, if that sounds better?)

I wrote up a roundup of the four amazing story collections I've acquired for @jacklegpress.bsky.social , plus some hints as to what's coming soon. Please consider buying & reading & reviewing, and please encourage your local & university libraries to do the same. www.fulmerford.com/shrovisbisho...

Happy birthday, Eddie Murray!

In the 2 weeks since Lurie Children’s Hospital paused surgeries for transgender youth, @kschorsch.bsky.social has spoken with 10 patients or their parents about what it means for their lives for @wbez.org. They described disappointment, loss of hope and anger. www.wbez.org/health-medic...

This is a program for teenagers with serious disabilities who are finishing high school and transitioning to their next steps in life. Trump just axed it, effective immediately, in the middle of the night, with no notice.

if you know any nuclear weapons inspectors who just got fired let them know they’re wanted back at the office i guess

Big mail day for stories with protagonists whose dreams and goals shouldn't be questioned in any way, shape, or form

This is where you go to tell the National Park Service to restore the word "transgender" in its entry on the Stonewall monument. (Scroll down.)

HHS Secretary Dr. Leo Spacemen

As a parent of two kids with special needs, I'm pretty damn excited to know that a racist billionaire who routinely uses the slur "r*tards" is destroying the federal department that's a bulwark for special education and support for disabled children.

If you're in one of these states, please badger your AG. It's surprising how few constituent phone calls it takes for them to feel pressured. And this suit needs to die before it kills disabled people.

Yo writers! We're officially half sold out now, so all of what I wrote below still holds: We have plenty of tickets left, but they're going fast, and it seems very likely we sell out again this year. Hope you'll join us at American University in DC on 4/12/25!

I really would like to believe that ppl are going to show up for disabled ppl here, especially since we collectively shit the bed and abandoned folks during the pandemic. But I barely see anyone but disabled ppl and their caregivers/allies talking about this. Please stand up

Section 504 prohibits discrimination against disabled people & guarantees equal access to anything (services, programs, buildings, etc.) that receives federal funding. It paved the way for the ADA. The sit-in that got it passed is an extraordinary moment in US history. I am incandescent with rage.

ICYMI yesterday I launched RADIO NOWHERE, my newsletter about Bruce Springsteen, with an essay about the amazing 2/5/75 show at the Main Point outside of Philly. www.radio-nowhere.com/bruce-spring...

Happy birthday, Adley Rutschman!

Don't know why it seems no one is quite sure what to do about these meddlesome virgins

book comes out in a month! great time to preorder: coffeehousepress.org/products/tru...

In addition to helping vulnerable people and orgs, something else you can instead of screaming is to put a wrench in this administration’s plans every chance you get. A few ideas:

Pre-orders are essential to whether a novel succeeds, or not, and I hope you'll support Tortoise Books and other small presses by pre-ordering the second edition of THE SURGE, on track for release May 20, 2025. You're fabulous. Thanks. bookshop.org/p/books/surg...

Just had the most beautiful and enlightening conversation with my 8-yr-old about whether or not ghosts can fart.

Did your child lose their book collection in the Los Angeles fires? Are you a teacher at a school that lost its library or your classroom library? Whether you need one book or a whole library, we can replace your books. 📚 Everyone else, please boost this post so we can connect with those in need. 🙏

Hey, just me gesticulating wildly to let you know that Off the Grid is on the ground in LA ready to support deaf and disabled folks who need help due to the fires. Please share, or request help here: form.jotform.com/250125620244...

I have room to take on an editorial client in late January/February if you have a manuscript that needs a look! DM me here if interested.

To all of my friends who got sick over the holidays with Covid, the flu, and other afflictions: that was dumb. You basically wasted an entire vacation

I know WHY I didn't read a ton in '24, but I was still surprised to see how little. Ended strong though - check out the new Higley when you can...

I was lucky to have two new pubs this year, which helped confirm I can create an actual linked collection of the stories that have grown out of "Burnpile" (from West Branch last year). A third new story even almost made it out there before the year ended, but we'll save that for 2025!
