My five-year old: "Daddy, I need to tell you something. Sometimes at school I see a creepy doll run across the floor." Have your kids seen 'ghostly' stuff too?

I like watching church leaders interact with each other. I've seen this conversation so many times: "How are things at St. ____?" "Good! Busy!" Busy. Hilary of Tours called pastoral busyness 'irreligiosa sollicitudo pro Deo' – a blasphemous anxiety to do God’s work for Him.

he that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom.

I’m convinced American exceptionalism is a big part of what made us vulnerable to Trump. We’re so used to thinking of ourselves as the Special Freedom Country that a lot of people find it inconceivable we could rapidly collapse into shabby despotism even as they watch it happen.

Jeremy Taylor in 'Of Godly Fear', Part III, Sermon IX, from his Golden Grove sermons - how inordinate fear of God leads some to be "perpetual tormentors of themselves with unnecessary fears":

There’s light at the end of the cabbage.

Listening to 'Coat of Many Colors' by Dolly Parton this morning, I realised that the box of rags is us, and that God is weaving us together into something beautiful.

Very grateful for my bishop. He's a good egg with a gentle heart.

The Lord of the Rings table 🔥 "From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." 🗡️

Almsgiving (aka charity) is something I'm very inconsistent at. This Lent I'm going to be intentionally looking for more opportunities, as well as setting up some monthly giving. If you're looking for a worthwhile recipient, you could do a lot worse than unduemedicaldebt.org

When you think of all the things that could be written on your tombstone, 'Saved 2.4 million babies' is pretty tough to beat. www.bbc.com/news/article...

I will be at this, talking about uncertainty, choice, and free will in Tolkien’s legendarium!

One frustrating thing about making rhyming paraphrases of the Psalms is that there is only one good rhyme for 'shepherd' – and there aren't many opportunities to compare God with a leopard.

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

Did you grow up having dreams where you can fly? I used to routinely fly down the stairs without touching any of the steps, and sometimes I'd run so fast that I took off, but for some reason my subconscious never made the most of the opportunity and gave me the chance to soar.

Friends, thank you so so much for praying for Uncle Ron. Here is the end of the text I just had...

My uncle-in-law just had a heart attack and/or ruptured aorta, I would very much value your prayers. His name is Ron.

So, when you see this sign, do you ever wonder which swear word they blanked out?

You can put half-and-half in your cereal. They can't stop you.

I won't say his name, but yesterday one of my absolute favourite Tolkien artists registered to attend Holy Moot. I cannot tell you how delighted I am :) Come on down! www.holymoot.org
