Abraham Lincoln was born 216 years ago today, exactly the same day as Charles Darwin.

How is it that a retailer can take a payment from you on your credit card instantly, but a refund back to the same card takes 3-5 days to process? Do they send it by carrier pigeon?

Brilliant satirical cover from Private Eye, mocking spineless media organisations and journalists who submit and cower in the face of power šŸ‘

Helpful!

We know what it is, stop defending it.

From the CWS Archive. November 2020. RIP David Lynch xx

Two nights running, Nigel Farage has appeared in my dreams, even more of an arrogant attention seeking egotistical self-centred prick than usual. Do I need medication or an exorcism to stop this? To Dream-meā€™s total credit, I told him both times to his face to FUCK OFF. It felt amazing.

A real photo and perfect metaphor heading into 2025.

Suella Braverman tells LBC that Italy have "built a wall" on the "land border between Italy and Turkey" and insists that "I've been to see it"

With news that Farage is at Mar-a-Lago in ā€œopen negotiationsā€ with Musk, I thought Iā€™d ask ChatGPT what he has said in the past about billionaire George Soros He accused Soros of ā€œusing his wealth to influence European politicsā€ & ā€œseeking to undermine national sovereigntyā€ Sound familiar at all?

Iā€™m gonna stick my neck out here, and speculate that *perhaps* itā€™s because their father also has ā€œsuchā€ red hair? Just a hunch. (You can guarantee that if those children DIDNā€™T have ā€œsuchā€ red hair, this kind of gutter ā€œjournalismā€ would be going after him saying heā€™s not actually their father).

Eating lots of yogurt in our house, 18 months or so ago we discovered Tesco Creamfields natural yogurt at 35p/500g pot. Great value. Last weekend we noticed that the price had jumped to 50p per pot. Today itā€™s at 55p per pot. Has the price of milk surged by 57%, or is this blatant profiteering?

The new Terminator looks shit.

I canā€™t even be bothered to open this clickbait bullshit being pushed at me. Harry & Meghan have barely even got a mention this year, therefore whichever year theyā€™re referring to canā€™t be 2024. Is ā€œwhatā€ all over for them? With this kind of ā€œjournalismā€, is it all over for The Standard?

Iā€™m still struggling to get my head around how Ggreg Wallace considers ā€œonly THIRTEEN people have put in a formal complaint about my conductā€ to be any kind of robust defence ā‰ļø

Thatā€™s 14 years of Tory government for you.

The BBC appears to be taking its MasterChef PR strategy to new extremes

History repeats. In late February 1921, 2 weeks before taking office as POTUS, Warren Harding writes a letter to the richest man in America, William Randolph Hearst, thanking him for helping him win the presidency with favorable coverage in major newspapers he owned & begging for his advice.

Reminds me of hearing a historian once say that the Victorians were extremely prudish about sex; but supremely open & comfortable talking about death. Contrast with nowadays, society is very open talking about sex; but very awkward & uncomfortable talking about death. www.bbc.com/news/article...

December begins tomorrow ... as does my Horror Christmas Advent countdown... see you then! Slay bells ring ... šŸŽ„ šŸ’€

I suspect the UK-US ā€œspecial relationshipā€ that past PMs have clung onto will be in tatters by the end of January. I really can see Trump and Musk blithely bypassing the actual elected government/PM of our country, and treating Farage as if heā€™s the only one that matters. Worrying times ahead.

"Some 56% of farmland bought in 2023 was sold to landowners who were not working farmers. The revenue per acre is too low to warrant the purchase, unless you are extremely wealthy and are avoiding inheritance tax."
