As I have the house to myself and am going to be in all weekend with a cold and a self-imposed deadline, I might do an Instagram live Saturday eve while sorting out my oldest drawings and stories, which I found in my New Mexico childhood home.

I adapted a template for for my first letter but now that I feel a little more versed in what’s going on, I wrote this one which I think is much better.
It’s entirely up to you. Every bit helps.

Thanks for sharing. A great selection of books including Elki is Not My Dog written by my good friend Elena with lovely illustrations by Tonka.

Reading for pleasure is, well, pleasurable, just like dessert! Nutritious desserts.

In my talk I spoke about how teachers turn picture books into fun, engaging and invaluable experiences for children. I spoke about subtext and peritext (all the elements outside the spectrum of the main text of the literary work, including endpapers and title pages).

Also, picture books are the first form of art that children are exposed to. Fine art for kids! And that’s why picture books can foster a love of art AND a love of reading. But I think more importantly, they can awaken a child’s creative potential in ways that nothing else can.

Picture books are not just ink on paper. Picture books are not just for bedtime. Picture books provide so many learning opportunities to develop critical and curious minds, and because they are filled with visual cues picture books can also help with learning a new language.
