How it started. How it’s going

They don't want to teach history so they can repeat it.

À la recherche du tan suits perdu

I thought you were better than this @asm.org…thoroughly disappointed in a society I’ve given a lot if effort to throughout my career

Still processing the president of my country ordering an entirely pointless dam release to win an imaginary 45-minute news cycle in his mind

I know the “imagine if a Democrat did this” is overplayed, but if a Democratic president had given George Soros access to government personnel details and Treasury payments I’m pretty sure we’d have a literal civil war.

Trump ordered the Army Corps to dump water from California dams. He claims to want to help LA. This action won’t. It’s just wasting water that we need to save for farmers. I’ll be asking the Army Corps why they abandoned their strict protocols for water management.

There’s been a kind of…fashion of late to view anti-Trump libs as lame and cringe and just annoying, aesthetically. I remember this exact same aesthetic judgment in the run-up to the Iraq war. The earnest libs were right then and they’re right now.

What the NSF is doing this week is damaging *generations* of scientific researchers and American investments in science. Billions of US tax payer dollars in investment, being thrown away, because of a fucking fishing expedition that is intended to terrorize and set the stage for a real witch hunt.

It has now officially been confirmed. We have reached the singularity

This is grossly irresponsible reporting by the AP. What’s being offered is not a buyout. The deal is if you agree to resign in September you can continue working remotely until then. There is no buyout or severance.

It will be difficult for the kids these days to believe, but - oh, never mind… 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

To put the OMB grant freeze in context, roughly 17.5% of Wisconsin’s revenue comes from federal grants in aid last I checked. Overall, federal grants account for roughly 36% of all state government budgets in US. In a number of states the federal share is even higher.

Update from DC: It’s still not that cold outside.

🧵 There simply is nothing Republicans can do, either on taxes or on spending, to change The Narrative™️ that they are the party of "deficit hawks" & fiscal responsibility. It is a permanent, immutable feature of our National Conversation™️, completely detached from any empirical evidence or reality.

Hey Food Safety Professionals, one of the most rewarding things you can do as a member of @iafp.bsky.social is to nominate a colleague for an award. An upcoming opportunity: the 2025 IAFP Europe Food Safety Award! More info: tinyurl.com/2u5wj482 #microsky

Undergraduate and graduate students studying food safety/microbiology, apply for IAFP Student Travel Scholarships to the 2025 European Symposium (Madrid) or the 2025 IAFP Annual Meeting (Cleveland)! Background: tinyurl.com/mra2szk2 Application: tinyurl.com/tkfwwcuv @iafp.bsky.social #microsky

We strongly suggest that academic publishers and other platforms that host research rapidly implement a Share to Bluesky button for their articles. Here's how: docs.bsky.app/docs/advance... #AcademicSky #HigherEd #Altmetrics

Extremely proud to be part of this research team which found that sand filtration enhanced with zero-valent iron (ZVI) was effective in reducing parasites in agricultural water. It was truly a collaborative effort! doi://10.3390/microorganisms12112344

One of the most depressing things about conservative ideology is that state-subsidized, *good* quality basic education offers utterly fantastic return on investment and we literally have over a century's worth of solid data to back that up.

I'm happy this collaboration of USDA ARS scientists is published! Led by early career scientists and supported by a group of not early career 😀 scientists. A summary/analysis of microbial methods for water - open-access. Teamwork makes the dreamwork! 🧪 @usda.bsky.social doi.org/10.1016/j.sc...
