You can talk to me! It's absolutely excellent. The increase of complexity in season two was a marvel to behold.

Or to feel that for the sake of street cred you need to downplay your enthusiasm for something.

It must be a miserable existence to consume all that content and not love at least some of it.

Idk man I just feel like people wouldn't be tying themselves in such knots over whether his online presence proves he's a "good" or "bad" guy if he weren't the object of many an internet crush. But this could be an oversimplification.

These are gorgeous, Frank. Every time I see a slime mold it feels like witnessing a glitch in the matrix. They're so weird yet they exist???

I think people want him to be an uncomplicated folk hero and when we didn't know who he was, it was possible to project all kinds of more tasteful politics onto him. Now we know his digital history, it's a lot harder to lionise him without significant caveats. People simply can't digest nuance.

In the years between his 20s and 70s, it was no longer possible to see the kind of leviathan sea life he had seen as a young man. He approached his memories with the same sense of incredulity I did, writing in the incline of the great acceleration.

When I read his account, I had my first experience of shifting baseline syndrome, because I couldn't believe how sharks and rays could grow to such a size in our disturbed, pillaged oceans. But even more unsettling was that HE had shifting baseline syndrome too.
