Is it surprising that neuroscience gets this magic thinking associated to it when papers correlating single neuron / small population activity to complex individual—and even social behaviour—are still accepted at top tier journals?

One could imagine somatic cells evolving a mechanism to preserve integrity to a higher degree than germ cells if there was an evolutionary advantage. My (very limited) experience with ageing biologists is that they don't see the evolutionary existence of degenerative diseases as paradoxical
