Your regular reminder the British Library remains unable to give access to the vast majority of its priceless & irreplaceable digital collection nearly 18 months after the cyberattack. And it suits our politicians & media to look the other way even as they spout nonsense about UK prowess in tech.

"Vaccine fatigue" is one of the most absurdly privileged things I've ever heard of. This is the fault of antivaxxers, infectious disease minimizers, and inept public health leaders.

As a lawyer who does Equal Pay law it is interesting to note that the prospect of young men falling behind young women is causing a sense of societal crisis that the reverse position consistently failed to invoke.

american masculinity is so amazing. caring about clothes as a man apparently makes you "gay" but our position on geopolitics totally depends on whether you wear a suit

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

Guide Dogs puppy Lucy arrived today. 8 weeks old and very chilled - so far 🤞🏽🦮 #Guidedogs #GuidedogsUK #Guidedogsfortheblind

Did something I have been meaning to for years today - walked along the disused railway track from Mickleover to Etwall. A fantastic walk (though sad you no longer can take a train!) People in the UK still fly 🇺🇦 flags in solidarity!

St Mary's in the gentle sunset last night 😍

Peekaboo, St Paul's! A gorgeous day at last.

We are stunned at Keir Starmer's 40% cut to ODA. Our CEO Martin Drewry said: “Just when millions are reeling from the loss of USAID - lifesaving supplies and medication stopped overnight - the UK government chooses to do similar. They should be stepping up not down. Shame on the UK government.”

Can we all please stop calling Trump mentally unhinged, deranged etc? It’s an insult to those who truly are. I mean that seriously: I know many people with MH problems, mostly decent people trying to live coherent lives. Trump’s problem isn’t an MH issue: it’s egocentric evil with no moral compass.

"Oppositional culture" my foot.

Everyone is dunking on this quite rightly but I want to point out that one of the reasons that this "not racist but the voted for the racist party" thing doesn't work is that racism isn't actually about what's in your heart alone- it's about the things that you do. If you vote for nazis you are one.

Baby moose are all legs.

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.

I know you like it when I make a banana bread I do like that 😊

Tidying up for spring - lovely shaped seedheads and pods

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness... it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair." Charles Dickens must have experienced half term.

woman in the café next to me is eating a croissant with a knife and fork, does anyone have a direct personal number for Emmanuel Macron

202 council by-elections since the General Election, just 11 seats won for Reform UK. There were 6 council by-elections this week Reform UK won 0, including their target seat Tiptree. They have just 72 out of 20k councillors across the UK. 80% of their councillors are defectors.

A lesson I have learned from surgery, shingles, chemo, etc: Never underestimate what the human body -- and the human race -- can recover from once you remove what's harming it and treat it with patience, love, and care. Don't ever let the current state of damage be the future you envision.

… I already track what I’m looking at, and think about it in my own voice. Did tech bros just reinvent having thoughts?

Freya will not take her eyes off the screen when we are watching Severance

The problems with this stance are manifold. Firstly, a ‘neutral’ stance is itself political. Secondly, encouraging the idea that ‘neutrality’ achieves trust is flawed: being *right* achieves trust. Thirdly, weakness in the face of evil is exactly what helps evil succeed.

That's quite a burn.

Time to evict AirBnB from your life, if you have't already.

It's just so important to look at oneself first. If you're asking why OTHER people aren't doing something that YOU aren't, you'll find part of the answer in why you aren't doing said thing.

Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid--it feels solid when you push against it, but will pour out of containers like a liquid. You can find a recipe here busytoddler.com/how-to-make-... 🧪

Yes! Glad we have @stellacreasy.bsky.social as our MP 💪🏼

This is not only morally reprehensible, but a breach of the UN Refugee Convention. No refugee should be discriminated against on the basis of how they entered the country www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This has come as a massive surprise to Irish people too: the fact that most of our island's natural cover is actually rainforest. How could we have known, when now it's almost all just grass for sheep or cows, or sitka spruce?

Can you vague that up a bit.

This is what should be on every front page right now. What's happening in the US right now is an illegal power grab by a private citizen. IT'S A COUP. It's a digital coup. It's Musk who's leading it. The consequences are terrifying. And it's coming for us next. 1/ open.substack.com/pub/broligar...
