Usually when states go to court alleging federal coercion in violation of the 10th Amendment there is not a literal video of the President doing it.

gravedigger of american democracy. a more malign influence than john c calhoun.

Exactly. We did not ask Bannon for an interview when he was Musk ranting — you’d think it would be my arena — because it’s like asking Red Skull what he thinks of Thanos.

Besides the bad faith and epic corruption evidenced by the letter to @robertgarcia.bsky.social from this Trump waterboy, it is “whom you call a dick,” not “who you call a dick.” Grammar counts, you unctuous toady of the wannabe mob boss WHOM you serve.

Ukraine has no choice but to defend itself. Mass graves in Izium and Bucha, torture chambers in Kherson, the rape and murder of children, kidnapping, and looting—this is the reality of russian occupation. Occupation doesn't mark the end of Russian war crimes; it merely conceals them.

You can really feel the anti-Trump sentiment building, and it's not Kitchen-Table Americans complaining about egg prices, it's about the contempt for the rule of law, the reckless cuts, the abandonment of allies, the mistreatment of other Americans

Things are getting a little uncomfy for GOP members

This is who is in charge of our govt due to the Trump Musk coup

We are seriously fucked with this administration and all of the ghouls who have pledged allegiance to Trump and not to the U.S. Constitution. They are in breach of their oath. They are traitors. All of them. They will be held accountable if we keep on fighting. Even if not us, future generations.

trump wants to be able to tell the USPS not to deliver ballots to blue states www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

Guarding a concentration camp isn't the kind of thing most people want to sign up for. Along with a racist effort to purge officers who aren’t white, military recruiting is going to tank and the ensuing national security crisis will be entirely self-inflicted www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

This is climate arson, yes, but also the entire value proposition of Tesla, the reason for its insane stock price, is that it would end up the Amazon of electric cars: the only real game in town. Killing off non-Tesla electric car infrastructure is a gift to Musk.

A defining policy battle is about to come to a head in this country. The Republican budget will force everyone - especially Congress and the White House - to make plain whether they are prepared to harm the rest of us in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest.

Best monologue ever spoken in Star Wars. The cost of sacrifice for a revolutionary. It pulls no punches. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijWD...

holy crap .... Another Town Hall(s) Goes Off the Rails – Oregon 2nd District Edition talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/anoth...

House Republicans who were willing to hold town halls back home this week got an earful. At events from Georgia and Wisconsin to Oklahoma and Oregon, many of them faced hostile crowds furious about the sweeping budget cuts & mass firings of federal workers that Trump and Musk’s DOGE is carrying out.

Send Dems into rural America to talk about what Trump is doing. The Republicans are too scared and won’t show their faces…in the vacuum of messaging, there is power. Tell the folks who is hurting them. Point to the GOP. Be the foil to the shit that’s happening. Be the party of the people.

OREGON: “The house & senate are totally abdicating their responsibilities.” @RepBentz (R) is the latest Republican to get confronted by constituents at a town hall. (Tennessee folks— town halls are these things where senators/reps show up and you can talk to them in person)

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

This would be completely illegal. But you wouldn’t know that from reading this post, the headline, or the lede. Unbelievably bad.

The Trump administration blocked key parts of the federal government’s apparatus for funding biomedical research, effectively halting progress on much of the country’s future work on illnesses like cancer and addiction despite a federal judge’s order to release grant money.

"We [the Executive Branch] *are* the federal law" is a dark horse candidate for most Hitlerian Trump quote from 2025. Surprised this did not get even more media coverage and provoke even more outrage. The literal, actual truth, of course, is that the federal government has three co-equal branches.

Trump was thrilled to announce tonight that he has terminated America’s most senior military officer — Gen. C.Q. Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Trump failed to provide a reason as to why he abruptly fired Brown from his position. It is, in fact, the first time that the…

This bill is about controlling women. It’s not about preventing abortions or preserving life. They want to make lists of women who MIGHT get an abortion. They want to track them. They want to criminalize pregnancy.

The debates aren’t just "deranged" they're racist. Good old fashioned white nationalism, and downplaying it as absurdity minimizes the danger of the ideology. It allows people to dismiss these debates as fringe lunacy rather than recognizing it as a calculated attempt to enforce racial exclusion

You can be allowed, in certain circumstances with good enough reasons, to be a pseudonymous litigant. This is DOJ acting as though the head of a government agency being sued in their official capacity can be an *anonymous* litigant, unknown not just to the opposing party but the court. Insanity.

HEADS UP! We need to give this story more attention. This is the next phase - investigations of those who criticize Trump, Musk or SCOTUS. It’s already started. It is a campaign of intimidation designed to silence criticism. wapo.st/3X8d75G

Abortion saved my life. I'll never stop saying it. Not having access to a safe, legal abortion killed my Great Grandmother. If These Walls Could Talk.

I want to highlight just how closely the Wurman-Barnett arguments in 2025 parallel those made by the United States against Wong Kim Ark’s citizenship in 1898. And rejected. I do not think this can be coincidence. Here’s a summary of the US’s arguments, via @jnovkov.bsky.social

Ding ding ding! Watch this. He’s laying it out. My team at Stanford Internet Observatory documented this process meticulously, over & over again, in 2020. The R machine retaliated against us. When Elon bought X, it became even sharper. The rest of the political spectrum needs to get in the game.

Still hard to believe we voted for fascism with unemployment at 4.2%, the strongest performing economy in the rich world, & inflation, at 2.4% PCE in Nov 2024, closer to target than 85% of the months since we established it in 2012: bsky.app/profile/mcop.... Verily, a marvel of political economy.

A good moment to remember the Russia thing was always real. Trump's goal is to help Russia and Putin, always has been. He's trying to throw our democratic allies under the bus and America as well. Again, the Russia thing was always real.

Again, Trump fired SBA Inspector General Mike Ware after he found $200 billion in fraud in Trump's COVID programs and returned $40B to the US Treasury. Instead, Trump brought in a bunch of fascist boys who know nothing about accounting. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

"Rather than doing the least due diligence to learn about the damage that Trump’s shutdowns have caused, Barrasso instead went on TV &...cheered the shutdown of programs protecting Christian minorities around the world." @emptywheel.bsky.social www.emptywheel.net/2025/02/17/j...

Putting together a catalog of declarations submitted in DOGE lawsuits. Here's some of what Democracy International had to shutter thanks to Elon's shutdown, in case you need to understand the urgency of the shutdown. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

We need more of these op-eds in purple and red state local newspapers. Right wing MoC are getting their understanding of cuts from Xitter and Fox. They don't realize how many programs they favor are being cut, some irreparably.

Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around. Stop blaming Ukraine for russian invasion!

Several drones successfully attacked the russian Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region overnight. In the morning, something was still burning there and it is not working.

Russia isn’t our friend. Bush tried. Obama tried. Trump tried during his first term. It’s an admirable goal, but it doesn’t work. No matter how much Trump capitulates to Putin, Russia won’t be our friend.

Crockett: "It's just that they're idiots. These are the same guys as it relates to our nuclear stockpile, they're like, 'Oh, wait a minute, we needed those guys? Can we get them back? Oh, we don't know how to.' I don't know how anyone can look at this administration & feel a semblance of confidence"

Great to start the day off right, running with UChicago Institute of Politics students undeterred by single-digit temps. They say there’s no such thing as bad weather - just bad gear.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Trump's base may be locked in, but independents are turning away & the cracks are showing 50% of independents disapprove of Trump’s presidency & overall disapproval jumped from 43% to 49% in a MONTH This is what happens when you govern by chaos

Trump already sees himself as a dictator with supreme authority. That's the take-away here. As Jacob suggests, it's now our duty to challenge this notion with every political and creative tool in our tool boxes! #DemocracynotDictatorship

We’ll see more of this. A bunch more. Will it hit critical mass? I think it will. apple.news/AZUd9V914TxS...

Lame. Weak. Useless. Cowardly.
