Recordings from Vulkanised 2025 have been posted! I did a little deeper dive on how autodiff enables gradient descent, and introduced SlangPy, in my talk here: youtu.be/Wg75trbSqg0?...

I just pushed a new paper to arXiv. I realized that a lot of my previous work on robust losses and nerf-y things was dancing around something simpler: a slight tweak to the classic Box-Cox power transform that makes it much more useful and stable. It's this f(x, λ) here:

For those interested: Alexey Panteleev will be giving a presentation about his work on Neural Texture Compression at Vulcanized 2025 on Thursday, February 13th at 9:30. www.vulkan.org/events/vulka...

I'm very proud to announce that today NVIDIA has released our first public SDK for Neural Texture Compression (NTC)! github.com/NVIDIA-RTX/R... NTC exploits neural techniques to achieve 12-24x compression of PBR material textures with quality comparable or better than BC formats.

Hurrah, I'm pretty excited about this: Slang has landed support for cooperative vectors! shader-slang.org/blog/2025/01...

WIth the Blackwell Whitepaper we are getting more detial about Mega Geometry - long live the CLAS! I have been looking at the added performance (and fidelity) from its usage in Alan Wake 2 and even on older classes of RTX 2000 hardware it is basically "free performance".

This announcement was a bit buried in the news, but soon, you will be able to use Tensor Cores in graphics shaders. devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/enab... developer.nvidia.com/blog/nvidia-... The API is super elegant, neural and non-neural stuff, a very impressive work of my colleagues, stay tuned.

For SoCal friends, Here is a list of resources for shelter, animal boarding, free items, and distribution hubs. These places can also use donations (e.g., food, water, masks, and blankets). Please consider donating if you can. For more info, visit Instagram: mutualaidla

I'm sorry why did no one tell me people are making entire synthesizer systems in *Desmos* of all things www.desmos.com/calculator/f...

Ah this is neat! An open source library for accurately simulating colour mixing in pigments scrtwpns.com/mixbox/ Video below from the author explaining how/why every digital painting app gets this wrong by mixing colours additively, like lights
