Our lab has multiple open positions for post-docs to study the regulation and function of cytoplasm mechanics during embryo development. Details below 👇👇 Please Repost !!! @ijmonod.bsky.social @cnrs.bsky.social

CDC source: “We just had word that all our fellows and post doc staff are laid off effective immediately. The famous Epidemic Intelligence Service, aka the Disease Detectives, is no more. That’s 1260 staff. They are calling this ‘Phase 1’.”

Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models. In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.

So I've given a bunch of feedback on Specific Aims the last week or two & as has always been the case, for new PIs there are very paradigmatic mistakes almost always made.

Do you know a UK-based wheelchair user who works in a lab and would be willing to user-test our prototype of what is believed to be the first-ever lab coat adapted for wheelchair users? Please share far & wide! Interest form: forms.office.com/e/66FhcQjqRT More info: www.ucl.ac.uk/ucl-east/new...

Cool paper (and great resource). I’m especially keen the disconnect between mRNA and protein levels in adult tissues! Pay attention #devbiol, it’ll be the same in embryonic tissues. www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

The nanodrop said I had no DNA, but I did the cloning anyway and it woooOoOooorked

Ok I had to see this so now y’all do to: I just ran into someone touting the “skin benefits” of raw dairy on the basis that “dairy maids were known for their clear skin”. You guys. Dairy maids were known for NOT BEING POCKMARKED. You know why? They didn’t get smallpox as often.

Fellow PIs: I noticed new students are not familiar with Microsoft Office programs as they grew up using ChromeBooks and not PCs. Are there free resources/courses to suggest to these students? I am not interested in using Google docs/sheets for data/writing as they lack many features

Are you a #DevBio/#StemCell researcher and keen to do more #SciComm? ✍️🎨 We're looking for new correspondents to work together with the Node team to develop and produce content over the coming year. 📅Apply by 20 January 2025 Find out more: thenode.biologists.com/become-a-nod...

In today’s adventures in AI and teaching, I found myself BAFFLED by a student’s bibliography because all of the links in the bibliography went to the articles they referenced in their paper and were real articles, but the citations were completely made up I was confused till I got ChatGPT out

Proud to have been a part of this!

Continuing to go through my trove of cool videos... here is a classic from my work with Philipp Keller's team at @hhmijanelia.bsky.social A developing fly embryo imaged with a SiMView #lightsheet microscope augmented with our Autopilot self-alignment system. www.nature.com/articles/nbt... 🧪🔬🪰💻

🧪 Now hiring a postdoc to do curiosity driven science in C. elegans. We study sleep, memory, whole brain networks, aging and anything else that a worm can do that you might be curious about. We have 5 years of NIH funding starting January… Here’s our most recent pub www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

Thrilled to present our latest BioRXiv on brain/body interactions during defensive freezing behaviour! (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...). You might think that a frozen animal has, well, frozen muscle activity, right? Wrong! Underneath the still surface of a fly, something in the legs is beating… 🧵

You get 20 extra characters on Bluesky which is great because it means, when you copy your old tweets into Bluesky you can always add “THUS SPOKE THE LICH!” to the end and it will still fit.

It's #FluorescenceFriday Here is an image of froggie vitreal blood vessels. They are so beautiful! A somewhat funny side effect is that the frogs are fully fluorescent for a couple of weeks after doing this type of imaging. They are fine and it washes out by 2 weeks. #SciArt 🐸🧪
