So been workin on particles for 🐭⚔️ , and, pretty happy with this kinda impact FX Got some Kung Fu Movie kinda dust impact, and some neat cut lines that make clean tangents to the arc, just. Yeah! Ok! But getting here was a journey (🧵)

Are you home and looking for something to do other than follow the GDC talks and parties on social media? Go play Type Help by William Rous. It's a fantastic text-based notebook mystery with elements of gothic horror, country house mystery, and SCP. And it's free! william-rous.itch.io/type-help

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

Looks like there will be a print on demand version of this at some point in the future. I’m eager to read it. I got to experience the Galactic Starcruiser just after it was announced that it would close, and I thought it was a spectacular work of immersive theatre.

This is an incredibly heartwarming story. Thanks for sharing, Rami.

Really good thread laying out realistic expectations for indie developers looking for a publisher, especially those heading to GDC next week.

By a wide margin, it is my favorite Star Wars movie.

When I worked on The Office, Greg Daniels had a list of questions he asked of every story. Some were show-specific (eg “Are we saying something truthful if exaggerated about office life?”), but many are applicable to any script. Here’s a little thread on them… 🧵1/X #Scriptsky #Screenwriting

This is a key insight.

the most important design rule(s) driving my personal work right now are: - if it is obvious, do not do it - if it is hard or boring to do, do not do it what remains, by definition, are only the easy and non-obvious things. it is hard to describe how fun and rewarding it is to design this way

Sometimes trying to explain how you feel is like taking a picture of the moon with your phone.

The purpose of peer review isn't to objectively select the best papers - we all know it doesn't do that. It's to create community consent and engagement. It's a social process. So you can use an LLM but you're defeating part of the process' goals in doing so, even if the LLM outperforms people.

The theater kid to game developer pipeline is a thing that should be studied.

I liked this one! I had to give it some thought but didn’t have to guess. I appreciate Daniel’s tricks! Train 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟪🟪🟪🟪

to any games/tech press folks who might be following me: we have a really strong assortment of games and designers at the Experimental Game Showcase at GDC next month. it'd be a great year to get some more coverage of what we're doing! schedule.gdconf.com/session/expe...

an homage to all the forgotten nintendogs (this is not really just about nintendogs) #art #promosky #nintendo

A piece of concept art in the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book is overlaid with the text "Note: Relief is temporary." While it actually refers to the fact that the design of the relief carving is not finished, it inadvertently appears to make an existential statement instead.

if you have voice online - twitch, youtube, talks, podcasting, etc - warn less techy family to confirm identity another way before acting on calls from "you." may think your family isn't rich so not a target but middle class houses get more burglary than the getty museum, less gets done to solve it

Severance is tackling really gnarly issues of consent and body autonomy while showing almost no skin and ironically enough it's super hot. This show rules.

I talked to developers about Microsoft's newly announced generative AI model, Muse, and its role in video games: "When we rely on this stuff we are implicitly empowering a class of people who own these tools and don’t give a fuck about how they reshape our lives." www.wired.com/story/xbox-m...

Licking complete. This is now legally mine. #cats

I very much appreciate this post, which speaks clearly and with context about the Muse paper and associated PR. It helps clarify what Muse does and doesn’t do, and what that suggests about the future. This bit is significant: as built, it doesn’t and can’t perform game design in any meaningful way.
