This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

“A video shared by Tarrio on social media on Saturday showed him following the officers, Michael Fanone, Harry Dunn and Aquilino Gonell, through … a Washington hotel that was hosting the Principles First summit, a conference where one of the officers received a ‘profile in courage’ award.”

Breaking News: President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said that he would step down if his country could join NATO. His remark came days after President Trump questioned his legitimacy and called him a “dictator,” echoing a Kremlin talking point. nyti.ms/3Qur4ab

This was always about cutting the federal government so the tax cuts for the very wealthy don’t expire. This was never about “efficacy.”

A brief word today at the end of the fifth horrific week of Trump 2.0. We are witnessing the transformation of our democracy into a dictatorship (or, as Trump enjoyed promoting this week, a monarchy). https://robertreich.substack.com/p/from-democracy-to-dictatorship

Tillis is up for reelection in NC next year.

Dear Dems. This is a reminder that Donald Trump rescinded the ethics rules preventing gifts to executive branch employees. Now would be a good time to propose legislation formalizing the prevention into a law Time to do things that make him react to you. apnews.com/article/trum...

Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

Strong statement by retired Rear Admiral Mike Smith, President of NSL4A: "National Security Leaders for America strongly condemns the removal of senior military officers without just cause. ... Removing experienced leaders with meritorious records weakens the force and emboldens America’s enemies."

“More than a quarter of the contracts listed by DOGE were actually already paid, the Journal found, saving no money. For instance, DOGE listed $168,000 in savings for terminating a contract with HHS for an Anthony Fauci museum exhibit. It had already been fully paid.” Beyond parody.

Holy crap. At his town hall last night, Rep. Rich McCormick compared *his own constituents* who asked him tough and fair questions to January 6 insurrectionists

The poster child for white male mediocrity, Pete Hegseth, is firing qualified Black men and women from the military.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

Trump benefits from the bully pulpit of the presidency, a legislative branch that has contracted out all of its autonomy, and Elon’s unlimited funding—but if he loses popular support, none of those things will matter. And we’re already seeing the tide turn. McCormick’s district (below) is R+22.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday that he was firing Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first female officer to rise to the Navy’s top job of Chief of Naval Operations, and would be looking for her replacement.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

General Brown is a brilliant, amazing leader. I worked at the Air Staff for three years and it was known that he read everything the staff wrote for him. He believes if an analyst took the time to write it, it’s his responsibility to read it. Very few generals do this.

Sure Trump fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the CNO....but they fired the top JAG's in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Why would you fire the top lawyers in the armed services at night on a Friday? That's the part you should be freaking out about.

We are already at the ‘purging the generals and replace them with loyalists’ part of the Trump second term, just five weeks in. Totally normal. Not dangerous at all

that Trumpers think the US Postal *SERVICE* should be a profit-making enterprise exposes the fallacy in their conception of government

The Trump administration blocked key parts of the federal government’s apparatus for funding biomedical research, effectively halting progress on much of the country’s future work on illnesses like cancer and addiction despite a federal judge’s order to release grant money.

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

Some House lawmakers are raising “deep alarm” over DOGE’s interactions with NASA and potential conflicts of interest in a new letter released Friday. cnn.it/3Qw2GVG

The battle of our day is no longer about Democrats versus Republicans or left versus right. The choice right now is democracy or dictatorship. And we're sliding faster than I ever thought possible into the latter. Everyone must choose which side they’re on. Now.

no threat in this font can be taken seriously

The FBI has only ever had Republican directors. Trump illegally forced out the last two FBI directors for not being Republican enough. Today, Senate Republicans let him appoint a new FBI director who posted an AI video of himself chainsawing Democrats’ heads off

Lawyers at Twitter are reportedly threatening advertisers to spend more money on the platform “or else” Elon Musk will use his connections with Trump to hurt their companies.

I quite honestly cannot imagine anything worse than trying to encourage NYC’s workforce of ~9 million to all drive to work

“It’s what President Trump has asked for." Republicans are gearing up to adopt a budget that would statutorily increase the debt. But they say that’s fine as long as it’s for tax cuts.

"It’s a sad spectacle to see a reputable law firm render itself into an instrument for lawlessness. It’s also a cautionary tale of how lawyers should not conduct themselves as Trump proceeds with an effort to replace the justice system with one governed by cronyism and corruption."

My statement ahead of the Senate’s vote on Kash Patel’s nomination to be FBI Director:

Until she isn’t.

Thank you Marc.

Republican pollster Frank Luntz debunks Trump’s lie about zelensky’s approval numbers, points out they’re actually higher than Trump’s 👇🏽

They are going to interrogate federal law enforcement officers and employees with polygraph tests to try to find out if they are talking to the press.

President Trump on Tuesday appeared to blame Ukraine for Russia’s invasion. "You should have never started it," he said, referring to Ukraine’s leaders. Here’s what to know about how the war began, the state of the peace talks and Ukraine’s election record.

The IRS will begin laying off roughly 6,000 employees on Thursday as part of the Trump administration’s push to downsize the federal work force, three people familiar with the agency’s plans said.

Indeed. He’s in the wrong public housing.

So much for Trump’s call not to weaponize the DOJ 🙄 It’s a blatant attempt to silence critics. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

It’s incredible that Trump’s people say the answer to bird flu is supposedly “better biosecurity” while they’re firing the biosecurity people.
