If Trump was President in 1940

'A senior Kremlin official told me yesterday that even Moscow is surprised by President Donald Trump; that they had expected change, but not “such tremendous change.”' www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

🤔

The UK is stuck in the energy dark ages, while other countries are already reaping the benefits of locational (zonal) pricing - it works. And could lower bills for everyone in GB 👇 octo.ps/zonal-pricin...

Transitioning to heat pumps reduces overall energy consumption because heat pumps are more efficient than gas. Notice also the strong seasonality in gas use and the more predictable, nearly constant electricity use. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🔋

Using American technology is a national security risk

To the right-wing pundits crowing over Vance's speech: if you are really "less worried" about a dictator-state that's invaded its neighbour, killed tens of thousands of people, reduced cities to rubble & engaged in mass rape and child abduction, than you are about "wokery", then you are truly lost.

Any party leader that replies to this with 'fuck the fuck off' will get my vote, subject to first past the post local constituency issues, etc.

EU gas power declined for the FIFTH year in a row in 2024 📉 Coal also declined, bringing fossil power to a historic low and cutting power sector emissions to HALF their 2007 peak. ember-energy.org/lat...

Scrolling Bluesky and becoming more depressed because Bluesky is good at accurately reporting the news and what is happening

Asking someone what their favourite Beatles song is unprompted is ALWAYS Boomer nostalgiawank interviewing and i will die on this hill. Band split up 55 years ago. Go ask someone born in 1950 what their favourite Victorian music hall act is. See what level of answer you get. Same thing.

Can someone print this up in poster size and deliver to Number 10 please? www.ft.com/content/44b2...

A terrible sign of how the rule of law is buckling in the US. Countries that have to pre-emptively pardon people against incoming authoritarians are pretty fragile democracies. edition.cnn.com/2025/01/20/p...

very excited to have other large players taking the decentralization of atproto infrastructure seriously looking forward to seeing what comes out of this!

Ugh. Very disappointed to realise today is not in fact Thursday. The perils of a first full week back at work after Christmas.

It’s funny Zuck says “I started building social media to give people a voice” when in fact, he started building social media to publicly rate the hotness of undergrads.

Wondering how I reached my 40s before learning that humans only breathe through one nostril, alternating from one side to the other every few hours. It's called the Nasal Cycle.

Labour needs an outrider to go after Farage for kneeling to Musk. This is a foreign billionaire who wants UK politicians jailed,a UK election rerun & who may exploit a legal loophole to buy a UK party. And Mr Patriotism is running after him with the begging bowl www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I worked on this in 2015-16 & it was a) absolutely urgent to start work asap and b) incredibly expensive no matter what (including the ridiculous build another one in Manchester and move all the departments idea). Now inflation will have made it so expensive it won’t happen until disaster strikes.

Hmm I wonder WHY billionaires would get behind a party that wants to slash taxes for the very richest?? It's such a conundrum.

NEW: Bluesky has seen massive growth in the weeks following the US election. There are 24 million users on the social media platform. With great engagement comes great responsibility, which means Bluesky CEO @jay.bsky.team has a lot to do. She sat down with WIRED to talk about it.

She mistakenly reported a work phone being stolen when she was mugged so has stepped down. Just imagine if she'd done something intentional like I don't know, hack an opposition MPs website

Some news: amid rapid growth and some over-enforcement of its community guidelines, Bluesky trust and safety chief @aaron.bsky.team tells me the company will quadruple the size of its content moderation team www.platformer.news/bluesky-grow...

2 Hours of FREE electricity for Octopus Energy customers tomorrow, Sunday 24th November, 7am to 9am. Full details via the following link: octopus.energy/free-electri... #FreeElectricity

With a fully remote team of just 20 employees, Bluesky has surpassed 20 million users in its first year since opening to the public and is stealing thunder from rivals hundreds of times its size. At a time when conventional wisdom among bosses is that workers must be in-person to be productive.

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day. The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.

I see a lot of you still sharing posts from the obviously fake Count Dracula account, so please be aware: - the real Count would never post during daylight hours in Romania - his full given name is Vlad, not Vladimir - he does not actually say “blah” and would never write it out in a post
