From 2018. I want to hang out with this kid. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Conan O'Brien: "First and foremost, [Mark] Twain hated bullies. He punched up, not down. And he deeply, deeply empathized with the weak." "Twain is funny and important today because his comedy is a hilarious celebration of our fears, our ineptitude, and the glorious mess of being human."

Most Americans agree that immigrants who assimilate should be welcomed and accepted. However, we don't have a consensus on what assimilation should look like. Is it the principles of the Declaration? Is it cultural, language, accent, dress, or food? Without agreement, we talk past each other.

If a person is guilty of a crime, they should receive the full effect of the law. Due process is the way that we determine the difference between someone like the scum who killed Laken Riley and the innocent. I support law and order, which requires that I support due process.

Happy Birthday, JS Bach! (March 21) A brilliant musician and devout lover of Jesus. Check out this cantata, "Ich Habe Genug" (I Have Enough). "I have enough, I have taken the Savior, the hope of the devout, into my eager arms; I have enough!" www.bach-cantatas.com/Texts/BWV82-...

Green Lantern Theory of Presidency: With enough courage & will, a president can do anything. 1st posited during Obama Admin. "Liberals wanted a Green Lantern behind the Resolute Desk 10 years ago. Now we have 1. How do u like it?" A lesson for all. Recover the constitutional limits of government.

The Serenity Prayer: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to tell the difference.” A nice article on the Serenity Prayer and Reinhold Niebuhr.

Martin Luther: “For some years now, I have read through the Bible twice every year. If you picture the Bible to be a mighty tree and every word a little branch, I have shaken every one of these branches because I wanted to know what it was and what it meant.”

Elon Musk's character has always been the issue. Jesse Singal: "Musk comes across not as a towering titan of industry blessing the federal government with his capacious talents, but rather as a fundamentally small man profoundly out of his depth." thedispatch.com/article/elon...

Andy Crouch: "The reason small children are given screens is rarely because they ask for them--what small children ask for, to an overwhelming and exhausting extent, is our personal attention. We give children screens ...mostly not to solve their problem, but to solve adults’ problems."

Well that’s a headline I did not except to see. Ever.

Nick Catoggio: "You can have a system of rules and 'norms' that works for the bad guys or you can have a system led by Men of Action who deliver results for the good guys, but you can’t have both. That’s the choice Trump’s apologists are setting up for Americans."

Rather than making the case that Biden's "preemptive pardons" are constitutionally suspect (which they are), Trump blames the autopen & conspiracy theories. Why? Trump has every intention of doing the same, but he still wants retribution against the J6 Committee. I get my way, but u, not so much.

"So, friends, every day do something that won’t compute. Love the Lord. Love the world. Work for nothing. Take all that you have and be poor. Love someone who does not deserve it." I love this poem by Wendell Berry.

Let me get this straight. Congress could not know what's happening in the federal government till Elon showed up with an "algorithm." Whose fault is that? Seems Mike Johnson might want to read the Constitution sometime.

President Donald Trump wrongly asserted that Canada is “ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.” Canada is a low-tariff country compared to most others. According to the World Bank, Canada had a lower average tariff rate (1.37%) than the US (1.49%) in 2022.

Bob Dylan: "Those early song were almost magically written...There is a magic to that. It's not a Sigfried and Roy kinda of magic. It's a different kind of penetrating magic." There something profound here--the role of inspiration and art.

Ronald Reagan: "Protectionism becomes destructionism."

It takes wisdom to discern the difference.

No one asked, but this is my position on Artificial Intelligence.

Jürgen Moltmann: "Without women preachers, we would have no knowledge of the resurrection." www.christianitytoday.com/2024/06/gene... spu.edu/depts/uc/res...

Francis Schaeffer: "Reformation is a return to the sound doctrine of the Bible. Revival is the practice of that sound doctrine under the power of the Holy Spirit."

My prayers are with Mia Love and her family as she ends her battle with brain caner. The America I know... * founded in freedom self-reliance brings. * provides equal opportunity. * gives back. * makes tough choices. * doesn't make excuses. * grounded in gritty determination. * is great.

Declaration of Barmen: "We reject the false doctrine that there could be areas of our life in which we would not belong to Jesus Christ but to other lords, areas in which we would not need justification and sanctification through him." cathedralofhope.org/wp-content/u...

5 Questions to Evaluate Sunday Morning Worship 1. How well did I listen? 2. How was my preparation? 3. Did I engage in heartfelt worship or was I distracted? 4. Did I have meaningful conversations with new people? 5. Afterward, could I shift focus and love my family? karlvaters.com/evaluation-q...

"No, Gemma, the first thing to do in a fire isn't 'get our stories straight.'"

"Homer, you are not far from the kingdom of God."

Freeman Dyson: "The public has a distorted view of science because children are taught in school that science is a collection of firmly established truths. In fact, science is not a collection of truths. It is a continuing exploration of mysteries" www.britannica.com/biography/Fr...

US Constitution, Article 2, Section 3: "[The President] shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed." www.nationalreview.com/corner/hey-r...

1969. Mad Magazine.

Harriet Tubman (1822-1913): “I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.” March 10 is Harriet Tubman Day. After escaping slavery, Tubman made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people.

Justin Martyr: We who hated and destroyed one another, and on account of their different manners would not live with men of a different tribe, now, since the coming of Christ, live familiarly with them, and pray for our enemies. www.newadvent.org/fathers/0126...

Lincoln's view of labor is influenced by the anthropology of the Declaration of Independence and his belief in human dignity. I would like to see a full economic policy rooted in Lincoln's view. the-american-catholic.com/2016/09/04/l... www.abrahamlincolnonline.org/lincoln/spee...

GM Gilbert: “I told you once that I was searching for the nature of evil. I think I’ve come close to defining it: a lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants. A genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow man. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.”

Great observation! Hypocrisy and inconsistent applications of rules usually reveal a greater rule. As the last few weeks have shown, Trump sees Putin and pro-Russia Hungary as natural allies. It's probably personal or psychological because everything with Trump is personal or psychological.

Trump Admin justifies its Canadian trade war because of the amount of fentanyl entering the US from the Canadian border (in 2024, 43 lbs). My question is how much is coming from the United States into Canada. I have seen 882 lbs in 2024, but I want sources. Does anyone know?

Nate Vance: "When [J.D. Vance] criticized aid to Ukraine, I told myself that it was because he had to please a certain electorate, that it was the game of politics. But what they did to Zelensky, it was an ambush of absolute bad faith."

Rev. Edward Chad Varah (1911-2007) was a British Anglican priest and social activist from England. In 1953, he founded the Samaritans, the world's first crisis hotline. www.churchtimes.co.uk/articles/200... news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news...

Kobe Bryant: “Failure doesn’t exist. The story continues.” allstarfaq.com/kobe-bryant-... fee.org/articles/mam...

This observation was offered during the election, but it is evergreen. Gretchen Ronnevik: "My controversial take is that culture wars are opposed to a missions mindset. It trains u to be suspicious of & opposed to ur neighbor instead of praying for & serving ur neighbor." @garonnevik.bsky.social

Evelyn Waugh: “A conservative is not merely an obstructionist who wishes to resist the introduction of novelties; nor is he, as was assumed by most 19th-century parliamentarians, a brake to frivolous experiment. He has positive work to do...” evelynwaughsociety.org/about-evelyn...

"Imagine if the Christian view of end times was: Centered on preparing for Christ rather than the Antichrist. Centered on the mark of the lamb rather than the mark of the beast. Centered on redeeming the Earth instead of escaping it. Centered on hope rather than fear." www.benjaminrcremer.com

Student: “Sir, don’t you think that God has revealed himself in other religions & not only Christianity?” Karl Barth: “No, God has not revealed himself in any religion, including Christianity. He has revealed himself in His Son.” www.britannica.com/biography/Ka...

A great read by Nick Catoggio. Nick Catoggio: "If you’re used to dealing with spineless creatures like Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance, of course having to deal with Volodymyr Zelensky will cause you to lose your mind."
