www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kCo... I really love this alternative take of the song I Have Always Been Here Before, on Roky Erickson's The Holiday Inn Tapes (38.01)

Why didn't anyone tell me about Roky Erickson's post-Elevators albums? Or, alternatively, why didn't I listen when people told me about Roky Erickson's post-Elevators albums?

I think I'm having a Husker Du phase

That Kim Deal album is still ruling my world, a 10/10 record.

Looks exciting - Konrad Sprenger's Stack Music on PAN was one of my favourite records of 2017

Finished Georges Simenon's The Snow Was Dirty. Along with The Little Man From Archangel it was my favourite of his so far. One reviewer said it was 'so noir it made Raymond Chandler look beige', and another said reading it was like 'repeatedly having your head dunked in a bucket full of ice water.

I'm struck by the sudden, horrific realisation that I didn't put the Actress album high enough on my year end list.

I am really enjoying this book on Korean folk art and its symbolism, a Christmas present from my daughter. Fascinating writing and gorgeous pictures.

I've been eking out the 19 short stories in Sam Selvon's Ways Of Sunlight since before Christmas. The first half are set in 1940s/50s Trinidad and the second set are in 50s London. It's a terrific collection, bittersweet, full of vivid stories with great dialogue, friendship, and a lot of humour.

Just read the first 70 pages of On Earth We're Briefly Grgeous by Ocean Vuong (a present from my daughter). Mesmerising writing!

I think I will post a list of the books I've read this year, partly because many of them were influenced by posters on this forum and partly because I love reading other people's lists.
