Pee-gate again. Indian man urinated on a fellow passenger on an Air India flight, 2nd time on Air India. What's shocking is the punishment - 30 days ban on flying on AI. In a plane a victim cannot move, he/she is stuck in the seat, nowhere to go, no spare clothes, no shower! tinyurl.com/5b3dss3p

Don't know whether to laugh or cry. The US and India have something in common...comedians are at risk! www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted." - Frank Herbert

It's not surprising that the richer countries like China, EU, Canada, Japan and Australia are all being vocal in their criticism of US tariffs. Poorer countries are lying low, some are grovelling. I really hate bullying of the weak. Makes me sick to the stomach.

The US-China trade war will harm the world, as they together account for 43% share of the global economy this year. China could dump excess goods like steel in other countries, undercutting domestic producers. China also rare metals it can withhold from the US. www.bbc.com/news/article...

The tariff war is escalating: threat of higher #tariffs on China & Indian pharma which was supposed to be exempt, may not be exempt. #China is a mighty nation. Can't imagine it buckling - if that is what the intention of the US govt. is.

Minority Report is here. Still in its research stages though. The UK govt. is developing a “murder prediction” tool, using algorithms to find potential killers. I doubt that such a tool can be accurate. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

An UN report says that India is one of the worst countries for maternal mortality. Maternal deaths each day in 2023 were 2nd highest after Nigeria. It's shameful that we spend money building temples and roads, bringing in foreign investment and assuaging politician's egos...but we can't fix this!

If mfg does come to the US after years, it'll ↑ prices of goods as wages'll be high and cos will have travelled a long, hard, bumpy road to get there. Assuming that they want to do that and assuming that they'll find people to work long hard hours at a factory. www.barrons.com/articles/tru...

So Bill Ackman, the rich guy who voted for the current admin, now believes the US is "heading for a self-induced, economic nuclear winter” ?? Even a child could have told him that this was an election promise. Take it on the chin, man. You asked for it. #stockmarket #tariffs tinyurl.com/bdek6xbm

Contrary to popular belief, what is important in science is as much its spirit as its product: it is as much the openmindedness, the primacy of criticism, the submission to the unforeseen, however upsetting, as the result, however new that may be. – Francois Jacob www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The type of manufacturing in the US may have changed, but manufacturing hasn't gone away. America may not make toasters anymore but it makes higher priced sophisticated products which use expensive labor/ resources. These jobs require additional math/tech training. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

The #Singapore PM warns that the world is entering a dangerous phase. The consequences of a global trade war will be disastrous for all nations. It isn’t just global growth which will take a hit. The last time this happened was in the 1930’s and it was followed by World War II. tinyurl.com/mteyydwj

Millions of protesting Americans came marching out of their homes - peacefully! This happened in a land full of guns. Awesome.

India is turning into a nation where any piece of art is interpreted in terms of collective grievance. Any deviation from the mainstream narrative is responded to with a cyclone of boycott demands, economic intimidation, and online harassment. #DesiWatch

Dead behind the body of cheese

Humans were murderous less than 100 years ago. People in countries without war were lulled into thinking that humans were becoming civilized, even if slowly, that war would reduce;civilisation would contain brutality. We were fooled. Aid workers being killed is a sign of ultimate human degradation.

From Pew Res: Only 40% Americans want high-skilled foreign workers in the USA. H-1B workers with master’s degree - 57% in '21. Amazon most prolific employer of H-1Bs, since '20. H-1B denials reached a high in 2018. 3 in 4 H-1Bs from India Most H-1Bs in computer related jobs. tinyurl.com/5667uxet

This must never happen again. From the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The 37% US tariffs on Bangladesh will hurt their garments exports, > 80% of their total export earnings. Sri Lanka's tariff is 44%; Cambodia 47%, while the larger economies such as India, Japan, & S Korea, have relatively lower tariffs. Making poor countries poorer will increase world instability.

A rhetorical question but one I can't help but answer: Result of being the leader of one of the richest countries in the world, host to the richest companies globally and the power of the Presidential system. A deadly mix.

Globally stock mkts ↓ b/c of US tariffs. Wall St. hit bad; worst sell-off since '20. Fears of #recession have gripped the world. One reason for US trade deficit & unequal #tariffs is b/c the US trades with poor countries. Cannot be corrected by reciprocal tariffs. tinyurl.com/36xu9r7u The Guardian:

No amount of money in the world can compensate for a destroyed reputation. Ref: Elon Musk.

YouGov poll: 60% Americans oppose deporting immigrants without criminal convictions/want them to challenge their deportation in court. Dems: 89%; Independents: 62%; Repubs: 34%. This means the majority of Republicans are fine with the unjust deportations. tinyurl.com/ycfy4rkb

26% #tariffs on Indian exports to the US are here, despite all the attempted diplomacy. Textiles, Pharma, Liquor, Dairy products, meat, food - all these prods will cost more in the US, reducing their market share. Sales of Indian shrimp and other seafood products will be hit badly.

A 2015 book, The Turn of the Tortoise by TN Ninan, explores the hypothesis that societies get more corrupt as they start on the growth curve, corruption reducing only after incomes rise. No coincidence that wealth & low levels of corruption go together. #booksky 💙📚
