Exiling people beyond the protection of US law without due process is not only unconstitutional, it's a rejection of the entire American revolutionary project. Sending people "beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences" is one of the grievances enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.

Re-watching #LastOfUs season 1 again to get ready for the next evolution

The claim that the U.S. can’t get him back is 1) false and 2) obviously a pretext for their deliberate attempt to ignore the Due process clauses of the 5th and 14th Amendments. It’s the sort of transparent deception this SCOTUS majority would see through if it came from a Democratic president.

Seen people wondering why so many major institutions are prostrating themselves before Trump and maybe this is obvious but it's because the incentives for cowardice are immediate and obvious while the disincentives aren't. All they lose is their dignity and you can't pay the bills with that anyway

North Carolina voted 47.8% for Kamala Harris but if you look in these replies you will see joy and jubilation for their suffering because it’s a red state and therefore everyone is bad

🤦‍♂️

This is happening in spite of the fact that the president is not in charge of the Smithsonian. It's not an executive branch government agency, rather it's chartered by Congress and under a board of regents created by statute, none of whom are even appointed by the president.

James Wood's solo home run (5) James Wood hits a solo home run to left-center field to extend the Nationals' lead to 6-4 in the top of the 9th inning

An Australian man with a US work visa was detained upon reentry, called a “retard” and told, “Trump is back in town; we’re doing things the way we should have always been doing them.” He was held with 100 people including many Canadians. Posters celebrating equity had DEI scribbled out in marker.

This is so obviously correct that I'm embarrassed for the firms that caved.

It added: "Commanders are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, especially as it relates to remaining nonpartisan in the performance of their duties." Really odd to highlight that, because this was absolutely not a partisan comment. www.bbc.com/news/article...

BREAKING: In the North Carolina Supreme Court election challenge, the state's highest court rules to protect over 60k ballots. However, approximately 5k military and overseas voters are required to cure their ballots within 30 days. More to come.

BREAKING: An immigration court determined our client Mahmoud Khalil to be removable from the U.S. based solely on his political speech. The fight isn't over — we'll keep fighting for Mahmoud's freedom and all of our First Amendment rights in federal court.

Per his attorneys, Mahmoud Khalil asked to address the court at his immigration hearing today, where a judge gave the green light to the Trump admin to deport him. “This is exactly why the Trump administration has sent me to this court, 1,000 miles away from my family.”

Before folks overreact to headlines about the judge’s ruling in the Khalil case, please note that (1) it was an immigration judge (IJ), not a federal district court; and (2) the IJ had no power to consider Khalil’s constitutional objections. This particular decision was a fait accompli.

The statement by the team of Columbia University graduate and legal green card holder Mahmoud Khalil is heartbreaking. Anyone who cares about freedom of speech should be against the Louisiana judge ruling to deport him.

weird, what could explain this

Democrats keep fucking dying in office, I don't care about your Political Comfort Character

talked to someone at one of the top italian tailoring firms. they plan on moving manufacturing to the US. said that generations of italian tailoring skill and culture can probably be transported to boise, idaho. expect flawless transition by monday.

Occasionally, I've been invited to teach journalism students about numeracy in storytelling. This graph from @rollingstone.com's piece on Musk's power seizure in the US conveys the scale of $1 billion (or, in this case, $316B) better than anything I've read. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Welp, got an answer to this question: Apparently the answer is no tariffs are being collected. Trump broke the system www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/c...

If I were Judge Xinis, I would order the government to produce, in her courtroom, officials who were in a position to answer her questions and to do so under oath. Letting DOJ continue to prevaricate and deflect responsibility in written submissions seems ... insufficient at this point.

What is this bullshit

A fun thing to do when you see them doing gimmicky shit like this is to try to imagine a real person who is persuaded to vote for Democrats because of it.

It's called Abundance, T. It's so the freaks and nerds who never shut the fuck up about housing have even more shit they never shut the fuck up about.

Not for nothing, but how, exactly, is it legal to send people for *punishment* in a foreign prison (esp with no due process)? Were the funds being used for it appropriated for this purpose? I feel this has just become a thing no one questions

I would say more broadly that as policy you really shouldn’t allow government officials to accuse people of *terrorism* anonymously.

You can probably guess who this is referring to if you have been online today, but it is also a fairly generic description of a certain type of guy who now holds a lot of power

My family got these payments when my dad died at 34 years old after serving in the Navy for a decade from what he had paid in. I was five. Jeanine is an incurious ignoramus. Thanks @jessicatarlov.bsky.social for correcting her, which is God’s work.

This is bad.
