One day i had to test an audio amp like 10 times. Each test involved standing up from an office chair, changing some hardware, sitting back down. Somewhere in the middle of all that i started doing the Riker maneuver. And then it stuck. I'm now forever cursed.
Of course, the episode is problematic as it suggests there are ancient hatreds that mean that outsiders can't do anything but watch the combatants fight to the death.
But, a key point of course: how the Earthers were mystified by something that they had gotten over a few hundred years earlier
Quote from the third Next Generation movie I was watching today : "Whenever in history a minority has been removed to benefit the interests of a majority, that minority has been destroyed. It is a crime. How many is enough to make it wrong? 1.000? 50.000? "
Star Trek. The series where a diverse cast of space communists fly around looking for a day to save for no personal benefit, only the understanding that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. That show? That show isn’t woke?
After Gene Roddenberry passed away, there was a slow de-evolution of his dream of a scientific utopia. By the time they got to the Kelvin Timeline, they all but reversed the concept of a cashless society. We can't have people believing in a better future, can we?
That's actually "First Contact" so I wouldn't give them a pass because it's was the most popular Star Trek movie in the box office pre-Kelvin Timeline.
Kor: "Curzon, my beloved old friend!" *hugs*
Jadzia Dax: "I'm Jadzia now."
Kor: "Jadzia, my beloved old friend!" *continues the hug without missing a beat*
But not always! Kor was super classist earlier in life, and he outgrew it. But it's very true that the best Klingons don't get hung up on someone's gender identity--they only care if he/she/they/it/other has the heart of a warrior.
Which is honestly extra impressive given that they come from a culture whose legal code is still very sexist when it comes to female participation in politics and leadership. Klingons are complicated.
We didn't force our children into religion. We explained the differences and when they were older, they decided for themselves between Star Wars and Star Trek.
"The good old times when Star Trek wasn't woke. My dad used to show me Star Trek and Ronald Reagan speeches every Sunday after church." - People who've never watched a single minute of Star Trek
Comments
Star Trek has been woke since 1966:

Bet he doesn't even realize he gave a really good political speech seconds after exiting an actual spacecraft

TNG was way too beyond some of them.
Love Lower Decks and Prodigy.
Yeah no excuse if that was in First Contact.

But also DS9 is the best
I really think he's gonna cause my brain to melt because, well, that
I’ve seen people complain that the message was too overt and clumsy for quality storytelling.
