And tinged with just that little bit of either shame at letting it get that bad or confusion as to what in the sam hell I spilt on the ground.

I've always been pretty partial to the original Black Rock Shooter OVA.

I have actively been ridiculed by folks when discussing Japanese pop culture stuff because I knew about Japanese history and I've met people big in the Japanese pop culture scene who see not knowing Japanese history as a matter of pride. Both of these things have never made a lick of sense to me.

Is that the garden right by Hamamatsucho Station? It seems very familiar (though I've never been down in there).

The one that comes to mind as a less well-known one in mecha would be "Dallos". It may be a little more general about government exploitation of colonists providing labor. I suppose it depends on how corporate vs. general labor you're looking to be.

"4Kids were instrumental in making Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh icons of Japanese pop culture in America" and "4Kids was a fucking dogshit company run by xenophobes" are not mutually exclusive thoughts.

He's such a cool dude. His channel is wonderful and I now spend way more time than ever before enjoying the flora around me when I go hiking. I wouldn't have paid much attention to these flowers I saw hiking yesterday before watching his channel, for example.

Last time I was there, much of the character of the place had dwindled for a more corporate, tourist-friendly feel on the outside, but you could still find some gems. I'll still probably drop by again, but I doubt it'll be doing much beyond eating at some places I recall fondly.

That's why it's important for scholars to always go back to the original text and not rely purely on translations.

Betrayal and a couple of 580mm cannon rounds will do in most folks.

I'd say, for the sake of time, watching the original series compilation films and reading a good synopsis of Zeta and ZZ would be most prudent and prepare you more than enough for the film. The Char-Amuro dynamic of the original films is key to the film; their Zeta stuff helps, but isn't necessary.

I think if it maintains the same manner of presentation in the TV show as the movie does, then it will cause a lot of people to bounce off of it. That's more the results of editing, however, and I think it could be effectively presented to be engaging to new fans if done right.

My immediate thought as well.

I'll avoid spoilers for now - let me know and I'd be happy to elaborate - but the change to the story of the U.C. also gives plot options that wholly could not have happened given the events of "Mobile Suit Gundam" and, in fact, tied writers' hands as to what stories could be told in U.C. sequels.

I would say that was undoubtedly a facet of their consideration. They know those designs have sold/will continue to sell well and it allows for those working on it - many of whom are known fans of the franchise - an opportunity to enact fun permutations of the original timeline's plot.

There's not enough to determine if all the new show's thematic elements will be different from anything Gundam has seen before but, as of what's in the film, it is treading ground that Gundam has before. This isn't a negative thing, mind you, but simply a result of the franchise's long history.

My buddy was especially confused about the Minovsky Particle and Psycommu discussions since they were non-existent for the former and brisk for the latter. I had him on one side and my huge Gundam nerd buddy on the other so talking with them about their different experiences was fun afterwards.

I definitely know two folks who G-Witch brought in and this caused them to check out this movie. I also dragged my buddy who's seen nothing but a few episodes of Gundam Wing to see it. I had kept myself spoiler free, so I didn't know how much U.C. knowledge was expected.

When I was presenting a Gundam panel and someone asked about GBF series, I mentioned liking it, but being against the weird stuff they did with Fumina. I got audible exasperated sighs and eye-rolling from multiple dudes in the audience, but a few reasonable people cheered and clapped in agreement.
