Hundreds of people mobilized in #Sacramento to take to the streets against ICE. Folks also enjoyed bashing the shit out of a #Tesla cybertruck piñata.

"Camps." The word you're looking for here is "camps." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

time to listen to nicholas jaar very, very loudly

I really need everyone to stop thinking in terms of laws and procedures and start thinking in terms of power and balance of forces. Like, yes, they intend to instruct the military to repress the people. They always did. The moves they're making are increasing the likelihood of army refusal

I think it's genuinely important that he doesn't know how to spin this softball. They are so fucking weak and disorganized and Hegseth is so bad at this. Wouldn't be shocked if military brass are circulating this clip and getting ready

this is how you do it, none of that “I respect Elon Musk, but” shit. he doesn’t deserve anyone’s respect.

this man’s paranoia feels ripe for exploitation tbh

Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, convinces the decades-younger mother of his latest child that he is too vulnerable to legally claim the child as his own

Pretty sure it means “We’re breaking contracts, illegally freezing payments. If anyone complains, we’ll point to this, and when we get sued, we’ll show it to a judge, who should laugh it out of court, but by then you’ll be out of work and burdened by legal fees, and we’ll ignore rulings anyway.”

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

All those sci-fi stories of societies that plataued and didn't know how to fix the technology on which their lives depended never seemed realistic to me. Until now.

🎥: Another loud anti-Musk protest today in Ft Lauderdale, Florida #teslatakedown

The student who ripped this sign down did more for trans people than most of our politicians.

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

i’m so upset

Gov. Mills: I’ll comply with the state and federal laws Trump: We are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get any federal funds. Gov Mills: See you in court

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

Yeah these signs aren’t gonna last long lol.

Astonishing crowd inside Manhattan Criminal Court two hours before Luigi Mangione’s follow-up appearance. Organized chaos, people are in cordoned-off gaggles down the full length of the hall, chatting casually. Feels reminiscent of fans waiting for a concert ticket line to open.

This data is funny because it suggests it’s just the same generation of people buying houses over and over again.

there is a fundamental contradiction between "home as affordable shelter" and "homes as appreciating assets." in order for the latter to be true, prices must go continually up, which requires some combo of supply restrictions & subsidies, and also tends to produce this:

38 is also about the halfway mark on the average American life (~79 years). Most Americans have never & will never own a home.

i guess you don't need to keep the senior vote if you're not planning on having any more elections

I’m not an economist but I think there’s a 1:1 correlation between union density, labor militancy and your leading politicians having hard-won skillsets for perpetual conflict and mobilizing obstructionist assholery under an authoritarian environment. Too many lawyers and not enough shop stewards!

sorry, can’t talk, mainlining this content right now

god what a fucking loser

So many community groups are trying hard to rise to this moment and yet I'm seeing such impatience and to be frank rudeness from people. Folks are doing a lot with a little. When something doesn't go perfectly, it's OK to not lose it on folks. It really is.

Our current political situation certainly discredits all those NRA members who said they needed their guns to prevent tyranny.

Stop calling these acts of deliberate malicious destruction mistakes — if you close your eyes and fire machine gun spray ceaselessly into a crowd claiming you just want to scare some of them off, it’s not a mistake that there are casualties.

true story

[threatening a baby] here comes the airplane

incredible exchange, @marisakabas.bsky.social

2025 and Democrats still don’t grasp Lesson 1 of “Dont Think of An Elephant.” NEVER REPEAT FALSE CHARGES

Grim predictions of unprecedented state violence when people already been living through precedented state violence that's gone largely unreported because that violence has been targeted at Black and brown people and those fully committed to collective liberation.

Incredible stuff in here: They ID'ed him, in part, by going to court hearings and watching him post

There’s an active fascist takeover going on. Let’s check in with the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary committee to see how they’re resisting it. Oh… oh I see. They’re trying to blow up Section 230 and open the floodgates for Trump to censor the Internet. Inspiring!

the thing about putting people in desperate situations is, they get desperate. the rich _reeeeeally_ haven't thought this through, have they?

Authoritarians in countries backsliding away from democracy learned not to cancel elections. Instead, they abuse state power to give themselves unfair advantages in elections, then cite their “victory” as a source of legitimacy. US is not really at risk of no elections. The risk is unfair ones.

Hard to organize a resistance when it's illegal to organize a resistance

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths
