Cryptocephalus aureolus and Psilothrix viridicoerulea, nice green combination. #Coleoptera #Chrysomelidae #Melyridae

Orobranche alba, Thyme Broomrape, Lizard, Cornwall. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Pupa, Ocypus olens. #Coleoptera #Staphylinidae

If you like your skin and bones on the dry side you may be an Omosita. Omosita discoidea, the one I encounter the most often here in Nottinghamshire. #Coleoptera #Nitidulidae

Bagged a few dead twigs from my son’s garden apple tree as one or two tiny exit holes and wasn’t sure what was making them. The culprit, Scolytus rugulosus. #Curculionidae #Coleoptera

Clytus arietis ovipositing, Nottinghamshire. #Cerambycidae #Coleoptera

I do love a Reed Beetle, and it’s that time of year when the majority are at their adult stage. This series is the result of the years I’ve tried to find a difference between Plateumaris sericea/discor. General thinking is they’re now the same species.

Pyrochroa serraticornis rescued from the garden water butt, cleaning itself up #Coleoptera #Pyrochroidae

I sometimes appreciate a fly when out on a survey, wet woodland yielded the rather nicely marked Ctenophora pectinicornis earlier today. #Diptera #Tipulidae Excuse the dirty finger nails, too busy picking small stuff out of pond ooze!

Always a pleasure to see tapped onto the beating tray. Clytus arietis #Coleoptera #Cerambycidae

Young badger out and about this evening at the end of a days work in a Lincolnshire wood. Not sure it’s too good a sign to see it out in broad daylight at 5pm. #Badger

Granddaughters new “pet”. Melolontha Melolontha, the Cockchafer. #Coleoptera #Beetle

Dinocras cephalotes, is there anything more impressive under a stone in an English river. #Stonefly #Plecoptera This one from the River Bradford, Derbyshire earlier today.

Pteleobius vittatus, Derbyshire garden log pile. #Coleoptera #Curculionidae

Caddis, about 5mm, made its case using tiny snail shells. #Trichoptera

Invertebrate survey bycatch, Stone Loach

Beautiful old Apple tree, once part of a hedgerow that has long disappeared leaving only stand alone Hawthorn, Apple and Ash. Nottinghamshire.

Stenocarus ruficornis, the poppy root weevil, strangely I’ve never found it anywhere near poppies. This one from a woodland survey in Lincolnshire earlier this week. #Coleoptera #Curculionidae

Bit of a bruiser in the British Scolytinae fauna, Hylesinus crenatus, appears to be doing exceptionally well where Ash Die-back disease has taken hold #Coleoptera #Curculionidae

First of the year. Hitchhiked home under the armpit. You’ve got to love em🤔

Let my lawn go this spring!

Off beetling, just a little bit of kit! #Coleoptera

Wood Sorrel, it’s a beautiful thing.

Bostrichus capucinus extinct in UK, these found in Nottinghamshire emerging from imported Mpane wood used by the tropical fish trade as bog wood. #Coleoptera #Beetle

Hydraena testacea (1.9mm), North Lincolnshire ditch on my first aquatic invertebrate survey of the year. Get a feeling this is found less often than in the past. #Coleoptera #Hydraenidae

Clematis macropetala looking good dans le jardin.

Less than a week until the Bucks Invertebrate Group conference! Sunday 27 April, Great Missenden. All welcome, please book your place beforehand. More info at sites.google.com/site/bucksin... @bucksinvertgroup.bsky.social

Vane trap up for the summer next to garden log pile. #Coleoptera #Beetles

Terrops praeustus in mid-April here in Nottinghamshire, it’s a very strange year. #Cerambycidae #Coleoptera one of three longhorns found today, others being Pogonocherus hispidus (second pic) and Grammoptera ruficornis.

Liophloeus tessulatus, arable field margin Nottinghamshire, all dropped into a beating tray in one go. #Weevil #Curculionidae

@teamlabouruk.bsky.social There are thousands of us out there working to better our environment and prevent nature loss. Graeme is right we voted for you and you’re worse on this important issue than the Tories. You’ve lost our trust and our vote.

Beasts going for a paddle in the Trent.

My pot Dactylorhiza fuchsii (Common Spotted Orchid) are really strong this year. #Orchid I enjoy the developing rosette more than the flower stem.

Oxytelus migrator, a small oxytlelinae 2.2-2.7mm, nothing too exciting but I’d have to say some of the biggest eyes with biggest facets of any British beetle I can think of. Derbyshire compost bin. #Staphylinidae #Coleoptera

Platyrhinus resinosus, Nottinghamshire woodland. Pretty much a certainty around here if there’s a nice patch of Daldinia. #Coleoptera #Anthribidae

Brachonyx pineti (Paykull) beaten from Scots Pine, first record for Nottinghamshire. Known from Scottish Highlands and East Anglian bricks, otherwise a pretty rare thing. #Coleoptera #Curculionidae

Pogonocherus hispidus, Nottinghamshire woodland. #Coleoptera #Cerambycidae
