To be honest, I've grown a lot more connected to personal OCs that have been inserted into the XIV world than I am to specific NPCs anymore. I love using the world as a sandbox for my own creations and having the game's NPCs just be supplementary if we wish to use them or not.

Although by this point Nova's skills have evolved well beyond black mage and he's become a custom class I call Sol Magus, he will refer to himself as simply a mage. Magic is just who he is and is one of the primary ways he connects with the world — nothing encapsulates that better than "mage".
