85 pitches and a beneficiary of a lot of great defense— I think it’s the right move

I did a quick Google search -- the Krafts use the plane to bring troops home for holidays and the like. This could be nefarious, but they also may be helping those stationed at Guantanamo get back home or back to the base.

Isn't it a lot more likely that they're flying soldiers home or back to the base?

That is, the supply chain will be fine -- if you want to get something from A to B, there will be a way to do it. We won't need to rebuild that infrastructure when imports return. But in the interim, shipping will be more expensive, and perhaps a lot more expensive.

LTL shipping is, from a truckload perspective, a lot more expensive than full-truckload shipping. And less demand for trucking overall will limit the supply of LTL trucks available. That's a double-whammy that will likely cause spikes in prices. But I don't think it'll be an infrastructure problem.

This is probably overstated a tad. Trucking logistics is a huge business, and LTL shipping in particular has come a long way in the last few years. For example, XPO, one of the larger omnibus trucking and logistics companies, spun off its non-LTL businesses a few years ago to focus on LTL shipping.

I've found ChatGPT and Copilot to be very useful over the last few weeks. And that wasn't the case a few months ago.

I could see that.

Yeah but that's not his brand of socialism. He wants to buy people's love with his checks, not send federal workers to clean stuff up or aid to states to do the same.
comment in response to

Could be, but Trumpism is socialism for the in crowd, pain for everyone else (e.g., doge dividend checks). The GOP follows suit.

That doesn't surprise me as you don't know me and have never had a conversation about this with me, and seem to assume the worst simply because I disagreed with you on something.

Language matters here. If the question read "until it stops attacking locations where civilians were present" and/or "until it allows unfettered food and aid to Gaza's civilians," I'd not object. If you don't think the phrase "attacks civilians" biases the response, I don't know what to tell you.
comment in response to
post
The Israeli government claims that it is attacking military targets where civilians happen to be, in part because Hamas places military targets where civilians are. That's different than "attacking civilians." The honesty of that claim is certainly debatable, but the poll precludes the distinction.
comment in response to

"until it stops attacking civilians" is a great way to phrase a question if you want to get a vast majority of support for a position. It's surprising that the premise had 71% support.

I know I spelled Jaxson Dart wrong here, but the takeaway is right. Getting the 5th year option over a QB is a smart move.

I have found ChatGPT to be very useful recently. Especially for research when I’m trying to find obscure sources. It finds and digests very nicely. I have to double and triple check, of course, but still.

They were DEFINITELY making the trade for Lindor's benefit -- just not in that way. There's a video somewhere of Scott telling Lindor about the trade and he's beaming.
comment in response to

He was good, but he wasn't enough. The deGrom injury went unaddressed and the team's record going into that Braves series (9 games over .500) was unsustainable, especially with Lindor then injured too. But they weren't going to be sellers.
comment in response to
post
Instead, the Braves rolled the dice and made some small trades, hitting on all -- Adam Duvall (1.3 bWAR), Jorge Soler (1.1) Eddie Rosario (0.7), and Richard Roriguez (0.6 out of the pen)
comment in response to
post
That was the general consensus but they were still in first place on July 30 (day of the trade), up 4 games on Atlanta. They entered July 26 with five games in four days vs. Atlanta, and went 2-3. Had they gone 4-1, they would have buried the Braves, and the Braves would have likely been sellers.
comment in response to
post
It was a bad trade for the Mets because it was a week too late and the price (PCA) was too high, but it's hard to fault them the team for trying. They were up 4 games on Atlanta but both Lindor and deGrom were on the IL, and they needed to retool.
