Things should be a certain way but that horse bolted a while ago. Wait and watch Senate and SCOTUS rubber stamp Trump’s agenda. I doubt screaming “but guardrails” is going to help much. Prepare for no guardrails.

I never understood this strategy of limited warfare. You either fight to win or you don’t fight. Would we have defeated the Nazis with this let’s-hold-back-full-fire approach in WW2? War is hell so choose wisely but if you goto war, fight to win.

Also, we are not monkeys. So this meme looks right but when you think about it more deeply, just hoarding money (or shoes) doesn’t make someone evil. At least, I am not buying it. And no, I do not like Musk.

All of the bananas are never gone. Money isn't a zero sum game or finite resource. Basic economics.
If you want to live in a space of scarcity, feel free. Most of us prefer to work to create abundance everywhere. And yes, that's for all people.

There isn’t anything wrong with being a billionaire. I mean why not put a picture of a left leaning billionaire like Bill Gates or Taylor Swift on that meme. The trouble starts when a billionaire starts rigging the rules to favor themselves at the expense of others.

Well, I started as a Solaris administrator back in the day so any *nix is like switching skins. MacOS does usability really nice although the bastardization of BSD makes me a little sad. Windows has all the gaming and modded rigs.

I am not sure if any of this will matter. Trump can waive all checks that the Executive mandates. The Senate will rubber stamp whatever he needs. You have to go into the next four years, assuming all three branches are broken because whatever goes up to SCOTUS will meet the unitary executive theory.

Sorry, I should say all four - got BSD on the firewall 😁

I think the issue is deeper.
The left is more of a big tent so you have more disagreement. Also, the left isn’t good with cults, a lot of it is arguing over ideas based on fact. The right is tight - more cult but also more united. So we have more inertia on our side.

Haha! I used to be a hardcore Linux person. Rolled my own Android ROMs, put Fedora on my company issued MacBook back in 2010 - never touched Windows and hated Mac on principle. Been a decade now that I have become more pragmatic. Run all three now, lol. Horses for courses.

Stepping away for a long walk in the hills around me. Will leave this here by Robert Frost with one alphabet flipped, lol.
The woods are lonely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Ah yes, that’s still on the menu. At the current rate, we are targeting to become a species that recognizes its own as its own, by the year 3030. I mean whoever survives by then - you know the one person that does.

Well there are only two types of people: those who divide people into two types, and those who don't.

On the flip side of that; what does the military do when the commander in chief is a domestic enemy of the constitution? Removing him runs the risk of what you rightly stated, plus civil war. Do nothing, risk having a US version of Vladimir Putin. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t 🤷🏾♂️

This, my friend, is the foundation of the MAGA movement. Plain and simple.
That’s why no matter what trump does, they still support him. In their minds, he will deliver “White Nirvana”. He’s not their end; he is the means to their ULTIMATE END

Yep - if we are true to the spirit then we should evaluate, well what do people think this union is about? Guys (of a certain disposition) having a good time? You could do that in Saudi Arabia. They have all the material luxuries we do (sorry women!). Probably more.

jfc, the mental gymnastics in that guy’s logic would make Simon Biles relook at her talent. Are there going to be tests for whiteness? What if my white ancestors were lazy and built nothing? Can I still join the nazi flag flying parade as a “native”?

Having rewatched Ken Burn’s Vietnam War - I came away thinking that generation were bigger heroes than WW2. Because WW2,you only had to fight the Nazis. Vietnam, you had to fight the enemy and your conscience, as many did, and loved ones too - yet they served bravely and with honor. What about now?

Maybe that’s the bridge we need to fcross. One side believes in deliberation and thoughtful debate, no matter your position. The other side believes in shouting matches. Now there’s a crisis right there for you 😆 I feel like a Russian bot now, but is this union worth saving? Too dark?

By the way, thanks for the civil conversation. I think I ought to frame it and put it up on the wall - “rare instance of a civil conversation on SM, circa 2024” 🤣

lol, I think we are allowed to fuck here. I mean at this point, I think kids need to learn what’s happening and why are mommy and daddy saying fuck and not caring if the kids hear. It’s time.

Sounds like we might have to finally emerge from behind these screens and do some Selma sort of marching in the streets while they serve us refreshments with fire hoses and other sides.

Yep, every commander in the military at that point is sort of on their own. No military lawyer is going to resolve that for you. Follow illegal orders or risk treason by mutinying against your C-in-C. Fun choices! They could resign and that would only help them fill those positions with loyalists.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see them removed already bu is there a good way out? No one’s coming to save us. Not the generals, not the SCOTUS and for sure, not Congress. Just thinking about a Yelstin-sitting-on-a-tank style military backed coup unfolding on steps of the Capitol makes me 😨
comment in response to
post
Eh! That’s going to be a political landmine - one, what if the generals refuse to leave? Two, the military will forever be tainted as having put their thumbs on the scale. Removing a duly elected President is Congress’ job. You really want one constitutional violation remedied by another?

And now with extra super strength because POTUS will pardon any official that is sanctioned by the courts. What are you gonna do? Complain to the UN? As inflation cools and stock markets go up because of deregulation, you think people will care? I am betting they won’t till they start missing limbs.
comment in response to

It isn’t a coincidence for sure. And other than a constitutional crisis, there really is no downside to defying the courts. We already know Congress wouldn’t hurt Donny. At least neither the outgoing nor the incoming. Respecting authority of the courts is a mere political custom.

I think the tipping point really would be open defiance of court orders. They were already defying the SCOTUS in the first term on some low key decisions. The CATO institute thinks they will go bigger this term. www.cato.org/commentary/c...

I wonder how long before we have to create (or one is created for us) a new language because humans aren’t coding anymore. LLM models don’t really need all the fluff that are programming languages for humans, do they?

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."
MAGA has given them plenty of “others” to look down at.

I do agree but my point is that the body politic is diseased and that can’t be good for anyone in the long run. Today, they come for women’s rights, LGBTQ, minority and immigrant rights. Tomorrow, the rage will turn on us. To hang on to power, they keep turning us against each other.

I feel like that those of us who benefited from the new economic system are the new French nobility. They will come at us with pitchforks and guillotines - people working 2-3 jobs and still struggling to pay bills. Not able to afford healthcare or education. It doesn’t matter who’s responsible.

When the unions protested factories moving to China and Wall Street was devouring American businesses in the name of shareholder value, the rest of us were just looking on. We pretended it’s not our problem. Well,it is now, isn’t it? They are going to rip apart the whole system cuz they are left out.

Yes, you have the bot farms cranking out propaganda on social media but you have a far right that adores Putin and his white thug nationalism and you have large businesses and business media that’s been in love with China for decades now and cared nothing for what China does to its people.

I mean we as Americans failed to care for other Americans. Too many got left behind. What did we think was going to happen if we did not fix this gaping hole in our society? I think there’s need for soul searching - yes, Russia and China are up to no good but when did we start listening to them?
comment in response to

So yes, propaganda is at work here but I feel, it works because there’s fertile soil for it to thrive. If our system delivered for everyone, we wouldn’t have been this badly impacted by disinformation. I think, anyone who works an honest 40 hours a week deserves a decent life. We failed at that.

I think like many other things, this realignment, if it’s happening, does have roots in many causes. Like the system’s failure to move the populations left poorer by globalization to a next stage in the new economy. Many of us benefited from this new economy but what about those who got left behind?
