New study led by Jessica Wyllie on the complex relationship between suicide-related stigma and help-seeking, mental health, suicidality and grief. 🔗 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

In critiques of research you often hear about "samples of convenience" as being a major limitation. I've been thinking that for longitudinal research we need to introduce the terms "designs (i.e.timescales) of convenience" and "models of convenience" because they can be just as problematic. 1/6

Defensive gun use is rare but gun violence exposure is far too common. Check out this interview re: our new study in @jama.com Open from @mikeanestis.bsky.social. Watch the full interview for important thoughts on very real threats to our work @ the GVRC. www.njspotlightnews.org/video/rutger...

We've been tracking unlawful NIH grant terminations for 3 weeks. Spread the word👇! Fellow PIs: what can you do upon termination? ✅ Email PO + document questions ✅ Submit FOIA ✅ Advocate to your OCG/OSP for appeal + litigation ✅ Consider outside litigation ✅ Donate to state AGs + legal orgs 1/🧵

My first-author paper is finally available online! We found that survival & coping beliefs are frequently cited as deterrents to suicide among older adults. However, individuals with a recent suicide attempt were less likely to report relationships as deterrents.🚨 www.ajgponline.org/article/S106...

The war on science, the war on gun violence prevention, and the war on higher education are all predictable and maddening components of this pathetic criminal’s pursuit of unlimited power. What a shameful chapter in our history.

1/ Excited for this new @njgvrc.bsky.social paper to be out in JAMA Open. We examined how common defensive gun use is, how that compares to the frequency of gun violence exposure, and which individuals are most likely to have engaged in defensive gun use. Follow along for more info...

Are you doing EMA research and wonder how to go about it? In recent work we've adressed some open questions and challenges, here is a brief summary of papers and materials. 🧵 #PsychSciSky 🧪 #StatsSky

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024. That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved. Show me a better investment than that. www.forbes.com/sites/michae...

Next week, QSP will be hosting Dr. Mashu Yang to talk about MNAR data in EMA designs! Come distract yourself for an hour and learn about this important topic for EMA researchers -- register here: bit.ly/3XPShbx

ABCT poster abstracts have been submitted!! 🥳 Looking forward to hopefully seeing everyone in New Orleans!

Standing up for science in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!

Frustrated that there seemed to be no large-scale pro-science movement coalescing, a graduate student took matters into her own hands

This Friday. Baton Rouge. Show up!

The Circle of Support Walk supports suicide loss survivors and funding for the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center’s education and training opportunities in suicide prevention and intervention. Consider donating to suicide loss survivor efforts in Baton Rouge! brcic.org/circleofsupp...

Forty-seven scientific societies have signed a letter organized by the @ucsusa.bsky.social urging Congress to protect federally funded research and federal scientists: www.ucsusa.org/about/news/s...

🚨📢👀Our fantastic current coordinator, @ryleelusich.bsky.social is off to grad school (CONGRATS!), so we are hiring! I'm biased, but this is the most exciting project I've gotten to work on, and we get to do it with @cherilev.bsky.social. Please apply &/or share! www.auemployment.com/postings/51502

Are there any lists of which labs are hiring postbacs this year? With the IRTA program down, there are many more undergrads looking for positions! 🧪 🧠 #science #neuroscience #psychology

Science in the 'Burgh I am planning to be there and looking forward to seeing you there too (if you are local and available)

Studies show that funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) contributed to 354 of 356 drugs (99.4%) approved by the FDA from 2010 to 2019. Recklessly slashing NIH funding will mean that patients will be waiting much longer for life-saving treatments.

Although we are not federally funded for this summer, WE WILL STILL RUN The National Summer Undergraduate Research Project (NSURP) in 2025. We remain committed to the work that needs to be done and will continue to meet people where they are. 1/4 nsurp.org

The data is from this week's #TidyTuesday! 📊 The data looks at publications that explore racial and ethnic disparities in reproductive healthcare. This chart shows how the number of publications changes over time, and the study types used. Code: github.com/nrennie/tidy... #RStats #DataViz #ggplot2

Get in dorks, we're going protesting! STAND UP FOR SCIENCE WITH US ON MARCH 7TH, 2025 WASHINGTON DC AND EVERY STATE CAPITOL Because science is for everyone! Find us at www.standupforscience2025.org #standupforscience2025 #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

So proud of everyone who matched to APPIC internships today!! And if you didn’t, lots of very successful researchers matched on the second round! ♥️

Hot off the press! 🔥 One of our findings was that older adults who first engage in suicidal behavior at an older age and who have higher objective and subjective suicidal intent have higher attempt lethality. Take a look here! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

🧵 US states that implemented abortion bans saw higher than expected infant mortality rates, with larger increases among Black infants and those in southern states, according to this analysis of US national vital statistics data from 2012–2023. ja.ma/4aVchPn #MedSky

The numbers are in, and infant mortality rates indeed increased after Roe v. Wade was overturned. For example, infant mortality increased by 9.3 percent in the state of Texas alone. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Can’t believe I’m typing this but… FUCK IT IM PLANNING A STAND UP FOR SCIENCE PROTEST IN DC. If you want to be involved, be dm me. I’m nervous, I’ve never done this before, but we gotta be the change we want to see in the world.

Thrilled to share my second author paper "Objective and subjective suicidal intent are differentially associated with attempt lethality based on age of onset of suicidal behavior" was just accepted for publication in Nature Scientific Reports!!

Fellow federal employees, please download your eOPF ASAP. Here is a handy guide on how to do so: www.reddit.com/r/fednews/co...

Just wrapped up my first year on the other side of the LSU clinical psychology PhD interviews!! What a fun time it was! I loved having the chance to connect with future colleagues and collaborators in such a packed full day of interviews, events, and of course king cake!

Mike is just a cute fluffy kitten in his heart 🥹♥️

Just submitted another first author paper on insomnia, grief, and suicide in the National Guard! 🥳 Gotta celebrate wins in this wild month that we’ve had. Crossing my fingers for a speedy and positive review! 🤞🏽

And just like that, my new award from the @StateDept to help Pakistan grapple with air pollution and climate change is no more, thanks to this new administration

🚨Exciting postdoc opportunity!🚨 Applications are now open for the Susan Nolen-Hoeksema postdoctoral fellowship at Yale. More information & application: apply.interfolio.com/160599 Please share widely!

URGENT! @WP just reported that 54 min ago researchers funded by the Department of Education were told they need agency permission to publish results.

I know there’s a lot right now. But folks need to understand what this means. A suspension this long would mean people living with HIV lose their medicine for months. People around the world lose their PrEP for months, putting millions at risk of getting HIV. Drug-resistant strains could emerge.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Per an NIH source: “Discussions with colleagues have suggested that if the universities all come together and raise hell about the delays to funding caused by not holding meetings, that might move the needle. From every state. There are well-funded universities in red states that will be impacted.”

💫REPEAT lab hiring research coordinators💫 The Research on Excessive Persistent and Emotion-based Actions and Traits (REPEAT) Lab in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting to fill 2-3 Clinical Research Coordinator positions. 1/7🧵
