This is how the Watto fandom gets you. You start off interacting with the content, liking and subscribing, seeing a show, getting a book signed. Then one day you find yourself being charged as an accessory to a brutal hammer murder.

Try to be gentle with yourself, and give yourself the grace you’d give a loved one who made a mistake. 💕 I get it, though. I’ve royally fucked up plenty of times before and it just feels awful. I hope everything else goes smoothly.

We can be comfortably disadvantaged together, Ian. 💕

Absolutely! Glad someone picked this one, it's one of my favourites. DM me with how to settle up?

Well done, impressive speed on this!

I’ll be right over to taste your shower gel.

Yes! She's got Words For Life coming out in September! www.biggreenbookshop.com/signed-copie... Simon's also arranged signed/dedicated copies of this guy's weird sushi book but it hardly seems like something Alex would be interested in. www.biggreenbookshop.com/signed-copie...

He didn't opt to also do the hair transplant while he was there?

Absolutely fair, it's a complex story. Speaking of differences in the US edition- I was fascinated to see that even the punctuation had been localised. Was that a decision you were involved in, or was it entirely up to the publisher? It was interesting reading your writing with an 'American accent.'

Subjected the family to a "...and here's the thing, it's not even *about* sushi!" discussion while shovelling eel rolls in my face the other night. Next week, I'll tell them Eleven isn't about a clock.

I'm fascinated by their choice to use a Horne Section promo image of Alex instead of a Taskmaster one. Greg wouldn't allow Little Alex Horne to wear such a fetching outfit! Do they also have Horne Section content on there?

I can't wait for my copy to arrive, it really sounds like a lovely idea for a story. 💕 Please let us know if you decide to offer up signed copies available to purchase online! I know several people who would like one. (May I suggest @biggreenbooks.bsky.social?)

THE YELLOW WALLPAPER HARD ❌ I can almost fancy radiation after all— the interminable grotesques seem to form around a common centre and rush off in headlong plunges of equal distraction. It makes me tired to follow it. I will take a nap I guess. EASY ✅ Postpartum psychosis is a bitch

Someone find me the name of the BBC guy/gal/pal who's got this decision in their paddles and I'll throw all my honk at 'em to persuade them to make the right choice.

Do you happen to know if there's plans for THS and/or TM to be recorded at Glastonbury, for us poor unfortunate souls who can't be in attendance? 🥺🙏

Thank you! I've had this yarn in my stash for ages and it always felt too pretty to take off the shelf- I think it was just waiting to be styled with a Mustang green book of poetry. 📗
comment in response to post
Yes- fun coincidence! The yarn's got some aqua and magenta later in the ball, but this segment came out looking like the genderqueer flag.

Mind if I ask if you’ve never had a sense of smell, or if you lost it? I lost mine for about a year from COVID and it was such a jarring transition. I got really into spicy/sour/carbonated drinks, for the mouth sensations. (It’s somewhat come back since.)

Oh, you definitely do. It was a religious experience! They’re a food truck, I caught them at a festival in Queen Square a few weeks ago. I’m not succeeding at finding a schedule for where they’ll be, but there’s contact info on their website- bowlandbread.co.uk

I’m not the biggest Stephen King fan, but I found 11.22.63 to be completely engrossing. I forgot it was so long- I plowed through it in a couple of days.

This moment is my new Roman Empire. I don’t think I’ve been so delighted since they smooched.

Stop it!! These are the cutest! I especially love how you’ve done their hair and beards. I recently made a tiny Alex for a friend and that’s the bit I struggled with.

Nearly verbatim what I told the group chat 🤝

I’ve got your six- I think we can take ‘em.

I’ve got another NMJ-related thing to squeak about from my trip, and then I promise to leave @watsoncomedian.bsky.social alone. (At least until his new book drops.) Tomorrow I might tell everyone about fried halloumi or crochet. See, I have other interests. You’re just on my Britcom feed.

I will confess that there have been few times in my life that I have been more delighted than when, wine-drunk on a plane 35,000 feet above Alluitsup Paa, I read the afterword of Hotel Alpha and realised I wasn’t quite done with the story. Guess I’ll have to book myself into another historic hotel…
comment in response to post
As with his other novels I’ve read, I reached the end far too fast and found myself desperate for someone to speak to about it. "-the ever-advancing march of technology!” I grip the shoulders of a nearby stranger and shout. “They dismantled the smoking room!” I’m asked if I’m talking about ChatGPT.

But I’m starting to suspect Mark Watson came out of the womb with the ability to weave a tale. The Alpha’s earned a spot in my heart next to Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest- not so much in tone, but in meticulosity. One with perfectly symmetrical shots, the other with perfectly crafted prose.

I've often experienced the disappointment of digging through an author’s old works to find the double-edged sword of improvement: a wide gulf in quality between the current and past. When one of your favourite creatives tackles one of your favourite topics, it’s a high risk, high reward situation.

The Angel seemed a perfect fit for the Alpha. So I booked a couple nights, slipped into a luxuriously oversized bathtub, and completely engrossed myself in the story until all my bubbles had popped and the now-freezing water forced me to retreat to a pile of towels to read just one more chapter.

Hi Mark, do you have any tips for keeping curly hair looking nice in high humidity?
comment in response to post
Oh, this looks supremely cool. The cover design alone makes me want to know more!
comment in response to post
Whichever you think is best! I know it’s a bit late in the day now.

I dropped another offer in your DMs! If The Solitude of Prime Numbers isn’t available for you to order, happy to throw in for a reader’s choice.

If you've only seen Frankie Boyle on Taskmaster and panel shows... strap in, brace yourself, and maybe take out an additional insurance policy before seeing him live. I've never heard such a range of noises from a crowd. I thought he was great, but wow- what an intense way to close out the festival!

Nobody forgot to activate Jamali this time! Weight loss was the new topic of discussion since I'd last seen his work, and he expertly riffed off a diabetic audience member who threw him an Ozempic related curveball. We also were treated to his evergreen "mistaken for being Muslim" bits. Great set.

Jamali Maddix and Fatiha El-Ghorri were, wonderfully, exactly what I'd signed up for. I made the ill-advised decision to eat a wrap during Fatiha's set, and nearly choked to death when she started in with her material about family and dating life. I wish her luck in her upcoming marriage to Greg.

Jin Hao Li was the only new-to-me when I bought the ticket. His delivery is dryer than Death Valley and a bit reminiscent of Rosie Jones: the crowd's tittering in anticipation long before he gets to the punchline. Then he waits longer. And longer. And when he hits us with it, the room *explodes.*
comment in response to post
Exciting!! I've had mine on preorder for ages, but if somewhere pops up with signed copies... I'll probably end up buying one of those, too.
comment in response to post
Oh, how fun! He really puts on a good show. I'm glad he got one of the best crowds of the festival, too. I'm sure the host and the strong lineup contributed, but some of the crowds were clearly a bit tougher than others. Bristol did seem to have higher flannel per capita than average, too!
comment in response to post
Bah, I thought we agreed to never speak of that again! Get out of here- everyone knows you hate people praising your work and I've got a book review coming up you're going to positively loathe.
