Someone in another thread mentioned maybe it’s not smart to be licensed (I am), but also I’d like to point out that no license is required to LISTEN to any radio frequency, just to push the “talk” button. Not everyone necessarily needs a license.

Here’s a potentially spooky scenario: you’re on a busy net and everyone ELSE drops out. At first you think it’s a problem with your setup – dead battery perhaps – but then you realize you can still hear the repeater tone and tail… 👻

@ai6yr.m.ai6yr.org.ap.brid.gy I always take a radio when hiking. Other day I was hiking in a canyon with poor cell reception but in contact with my wife 24 miles away the whole time (thanks repeaters!). APRS also works great.

Everyone seems to immediately gravitate to the spoon as being the opposite of the fork, but may I humbly suggest there is a third option… (And no, I don’t mean sporks.)

I haven’t bought anything from them in over a month. I practically had weekly runs before.

I don’t think you’re shouting into the void, I just think you (and I, and a lot of people) are just preaching to the choir. You should rest and practice self care, but don’t be done. We need you.

@altnps.bsky.social says it wasn’t carried out by the park service. Not sure what that means. Maybe Elon’s little hackers?

This means celebrating our uniqueness, finding joy in our differences, actively working together to restore relationships, and unapologetically calling out evil where it exists. On that note, trolls and fascists are not welcome and will be dealt with accordingly. 6/6

Finally, I suppose at this time of chaotic politics where labels are actively being deconstructed (if they ever meant anything to begin with), my moral compass is oriented around a basic concept - treating others as I would want to be treated. We're all different, but we are all family. 5/6

Amateur (aka Ham) radio is a hobby that helps us communicate when modern methods fail - such as during extreme weather and natural disasters. Local and long-distance communication is possible. For a recent example in action check out this article: tinyurl.com/hamhur
It's also a lot of fun. 4/6

Grew up in the Sierra foothills and was fortunate to have many opportunities to connect with nature - even if I didn't appreciate it sometimes. Oriented around conservation and outdoor equity through video work and volunteering with @latinooutdoors.bsky.social. The outdoors is for everyone. 2/6
