When we were kids it was on lists of "false friends" (like canape and so on) but it's rarely on them now.

That one's a funny one, because lots of French people now use pingouin to mean penguin, because the sound is so similar and, yay, anglicisation; it's almost a loan word in reverse. But technically "un pingouin" is a member of the Auk family, while "un manchot" is what we think of a penguin.

I guess they divide them up a bit more granularly than we do. I also enjoy the fact that "un pingouin" is not actually a penguin, but "un manchot" is.

Delightfully it's whether or not they have ear tufts (le hibou, yes, la chouette, no)

Any reason given? I would immediately leap to T from those two words. A quick dig through 15^2 shows it's not widely used, but not particularly uncommon

Back in the day we were convinced The Cure weren't goth. Too many pop songs when The Nephilim, Sisters, Mission and you were all in full flight. Looking back we were idiots, but hey, what are your teens for, if not having opinions ;)

She clearly doesn't like hot sauce; doesn't even understand the use case, I'd wager. No one who actually *likes* hot sauce puts fucking Tabasco first. It's a fucking ingredient, not a condiment. And it's downhill from there; one of the recommendations is "more of a sweet chilli", for fucks sake

The same happened to me; I quit in 2016 when my timeline was either politics or nonsense, and loose connections with old school friends and colleagues were lost. I consoled myself with the fact that if they were loose enough to only exist there they were probably not so valuable...
