I'm the usual kittylyst you'll find in other places, but someone beat me to the name here. So, I guess I'm the OG. Much more likely to be found over at @[email protected] though.

I made a post about how the views & memes of anonymous posters* were no more worthwhile than a bleating sheep. Apparently in pseudonymous ‘reading comprehension’ that means ‘treat me as the exoneration fairy for why your memes are precision blows against fascism’. I’m too old for this nonsense.

The MAGA Movement in one, simple to understand comic strip.

For @terrysesson1.bsky.social today's UK newspaper 🇺🇦

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Elon Musk's AI platform has been retrained to generate a "both sides" response to whether climate change is a threat. One is the view of science, while the other is fossil fuel industry waffle.

Pleading with people to understand exactly this:

I am extremely displeased to learn that "data" is not a permitted top-level in the newly-opened South Sudan ccTLD. Won't someone think of the tech entrepreneurs, please?

I would simply not connect my bed to the fucking Internet

“This is where we keep the Owl Man until nightfall.”

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

Britain’s carnival of reaction nationalist theme park is going to be built by French businessmen with links to the far right and Putin. It’s entirely fitting with the bombastic but surface level understanding of history that informs the resurgent British far right.

📩 Over 13,500 people have emailed Sky's CEO to say: Stop funding hate on GB News. It only takes 2 minutes. Will you join them? action.goodlawproject.org/sky-stop-fun...

In case you haven't been paying attention - even the #web3 and #blockchain people (those that are left) think that current #ai code assistants aren't fit for production use yet.

Musk called DOGE “maximally transparent,” but it has refused to release info about its spending and operations — including the names of its employees. Thankfully, @propublica.org has identified 46 of them, including 12 new names just added to the list today.

MUST WATCH: Rich McCormick (R) got embarrassed at his own town hall because he wouldn’t admit the obvious—Trump is headed straight for dictatorship. He dodged the questions and got BOOED to hell. Things are heating up!

"AI" is, purely, a marketing term and a (poor) umbrella phrase for a number of different types of computerized statistical analysis, iteration and synthesis. If something is being touted as "AI" to me, it's because someone wants me to buy it, and also I probably don't need it.

Why is it that the people who always have the most outdated (quite often 20+ years out of date) ideas about #java always spell it JAVA? What do they think it's an acronym for? #programming

Coinbase says that the SEC has agreed to drop the enforcement case against the company. It only cost them $75 million in political contributions.

The past ten years has just been the same clutch of morons and apologists insisting that Trump would never cross that line and then shuffling along with him to insist that he would never cross that next one.

Some thoughts on the release of the hostages’ bodies today. There’s enough sorrow to share. Enough empathy to go around. Let us break open, rather than close up.

"But the answer to Faragism cannot be the creation of a Reform-lite tribute band, Teal Labour if you like, and to turn on progressivism and denounce it as an illness." An excellent piece by Neal Lawson in @bylinetimes.bsky.social bylinetimes.com/2025/02/19/k...

This is an excellent speech by the new Chancellor of Oxford University, William Hague. Lots of good jokes, but also a staunch defence of what a university should be. We're going to need a lot of that in the years ahead.

Every time you see someone express awe at the capabilities of so-called AI, remember that the most popular show in America was The Big Bang Theory for like six years running.

Calling yourself a king doesn't make you a king. Watery tarts handing out swords does.

It shows the capture of British politics that far right hate, the persecution of a minority, is Labour Party policy. Even more so, that a media org calls human rights of trans ppl ‘controversial’. Scotland should be better than this. news.stv.tv/politics/i-d...

I understand that there are self-identified 'centrists' who supported Trump and the reality is with Trump's stated positions and policies those folks have to be: - stupid - ill-informed - delusional - lying You cannot be a centrist who supports someone who says they will be a dictator

The latest from Just Stop Oil HQ… From the new Private Eye, in shops now.

"one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change.."

Journalists need to ask Farage how many white children he wants each white woman to breed for him. He should be asked to give a specific number: 4.6, 7.2, whatever. Then voters should be always reminded of that number. If he doesn’t answer that question, journalists should keep asking till he does.

"I am finally free." Leonard Peltier walked out of prison today at 8:40am, nearly 50 years after the U.S. govt lied to put him there. New statement from Peltier, along with photos of him moments after leaving prison, in the sun, happy. www.huffpost.com/entry/leonar...

Another reminder for those who still seem to have not understood: Chat programs do not “look up” information and then repeat it. They write plausible language in answer to a prompt based on their data set. References will use real people, journals & words from titles, but will not truly exist.
