Who, then, that won't just be a vote in Trump's pocket?

Would love to know the number of IUDs the townspeople of Prosper, TX, previously faced that necessitated the police buying themselves one of these.

Never mind that—imagine if he'd been accused of cheating on his third wife after the birth of his fifth child with an adult film star.

I think it depends on the national mood and on a school's values. I went to a democratic school in NH, so we were engaged politically because we were set up to be. The students at the school where I work, at a time when teachers are supposed to "shut up and teach," seem less engaged.

But they're so disparate and different from our own that it's hard to help them discern good sources from bad. TikTok is probably one such source, but I'm not on it myself and it's blocked in school. Too many sources breeds apathy in many of them, because where do you even start?

High school teacher here. A lot of students aren't tuned into the news, maybe because schools are fearful of accusations of bias in the classroom, so we don't bring stuff up. I recently asked sophomores if there were any issues animating them, and one was like, "Whoa, you can't talk about politics."

I *loathe* grading, but if I ever use AI to help me do it, I will know it's time to quit. That's not the way.

I feel the same about the automatic trunk opener of my car, which works frustratingly inconsistently—but at the touch of a button!

Remind me of this good idea when our school district isn't facing a $9.5 million budget deficit...

I just don't know if the number is much smaller than that, especially for younger grades. Four day weeks for high school seems more possible to me. Maybe it's something you earn when you can show the ability to learn independently?

The small face squeezed next to mine in my profile picture is a child I'm quite fond of who I usually recognize as human. He has way better work/life balance than I do—though he also thrives in the structure that school can provide.

Oh, I don't like too much homework, either. It tends to lead to more grading. At its best, school creates opportunities to learn enough to find joy and meaning in life, and maybe even escape those pesky machines with their thirst for cogs. But I can see how the daily grind feels burdensome.

Well, I don't think kids should be in school seven days a week...

Nope nope nope nope. I like summer vacation too much. (And the cost of upgrading school infrastructure across the country to accommodate summer operation would be (hopefully) prohibitive.)

Quite the dim view of school! I teach high school English, and my aim is generally not to crush my students' souls. Do I wish there was more flexibility to the school calendar? Yes. Do I still want summer vacation to exist? Yes. Do I think school should be in session 5 days a week? Probably...?

Yeah, my high school alma mater had "x-periods," so each class was scheduled five days a week but only met four of them. But how early could that realistically start? Elementary students thrive on more routine—habit and practice, all that.

As a teacher, I'm curious if this vision includes schools. I relished three- and four-day schedules in college; I'm not sure students would get enough out of a 4-day school week. (Then again, I am very pro-summer vacation while recognizing the amount of learning loss incurred.)

"Innocent people are dying and you only have yourself to blame," says a senator who I feel quite confident has voted against any kind of gun control legislation.

"Look, we're not Rumsfeld here: *we* go to war with the future queen we want, not the future queen we have. To that end, we are slowly replacing all her body parts with doll parts, and that simply takes time. Patience, Brits."

Why wouldn't the opposite be the case? If it becomes not just a moral cause but an electoral problem to back Netanyahu's warpath, then wouldn't you see Democrats push towards ceasefire language more aggressively?

Somewhere, I have a 'Sloshed Josh' Garbage Pail Kid card he signed for me when I was in high school. (That and my postcard from David Foster Wallace constitute my retirement plan.)
