Iβm really curious about the next round of college applications and admissions. I have to imagine a LOT of high school students are like ππππ.

it's not even a hard argument to make. if I were a parent of a Columbia student I would be 1. apoplectic and looking to do a class action suit and 2. telling any other parent with soon-to-be-college-age kids to steer as far clear of any of these shithead universities as possible.
AND parents esp those who dole out their own money for their child to attend school. If you cannot uphold the right to assembly on your campus how tf can you promise anything.
BSc in EU cost me....free. Austria & Germany charge about...800 EUR/semester. Even fancy Scandi unis are 1/2 the price of a US equiv. MSc cost ~40% of US in Paris and Copenhagen. If yr not going with land grant or state, leave th US system in the dust and join an internat'l cohort at a euro uni
High school teacher here. A lot of students aren't tuned into the news, maybe because schools are fearful of accusations of bias in the classroom, so we don't bring stuff up. I recently asked sophomores if there were any issues animating them, and one was like, "Whoa, you can't talk about politics."
They're not getting their news from you or talking about it with you, but does that mean they're not getting it? They have more other sources than ever
But they're so disparate and different from our own that it's hard to help them discern good sources from bad. TikTok is probably one such source, but I'm not on it myself and it's blocked in school. Too many sources breeds apathy in many of them, because where do you even start?
I think it depends on the national mood and on a school's values. I went to a democratic school in NH, so we were engaged politically because we were set up to be. The students at the school where I work, at a time when teachers are supposed to "shut up and teach," seem less engaged.
Trades are hiring like crazy right now and in like 5 -10 years as there's a massive retirement wave and the robots are less than promised, you can write your ticket. Community college is also an excellent place to get pliable skills these days. Know how to do things, because Brunch Lord's don't.
College counselor here! You may or may not be surprised to know that a lot of high schoolers are not talking about this. In fact, some students are still so image and prestige obsessed that something like this would not affect their options at all.
You, too, could saddle yourself with $100,000 in debt for dubious future prospects and the inimitable experience of clueless administrators siccing armed goons on you for being upset about genocide.
The applications calculus already changed after Dobbs to include whether the school is in a state that denies bodily autonomy. Having to factor in whether the admin will call cops on the students is even more dystopian.
We have absolutely failed the school shooting/pandemic generation.
Yup. I can imagine many/most current students needing to stay to complete their degrees on schedule, but I don't know why you'd enroll somewhere treating its students like criminals.
Is this what the right talked about when they said universities are corrupting young minds?
They weren't talking about the past they were talking about the future.

Friend: Yeah, well, not all of us are so lucky.
Local: You could transfer. Not too late.
Friend: True. Wonder if my parents would let me.
I can see a lot of parents (the ones who don't like their kids very much) being willing to give this place a try.
Get your applications in now!

* has good food in the quad
* quiet dorms
* police wonβt appear on horseback thinking they are the lone ranger to billy club you for standing adjacent to a scary rock
