Actually probably a coffee shop here in Ottawa.

This is what happens when Jacobin gets a Canadian leftist to write a piece for the magazine (I follow Moscrop on here and find he’s usually pretty reasonable, but I’m not really sure what he was shooting for here🤷🏻‍♂️).

The presidents of Iran still play an important role in governance. Khamenei can veto them, but the elected presidents are given some room to maneuver within the system, if anything because they act as a safety valve for releasing some of the discontent in the population.

Biden unfortunately had a hardliner as President of Iran in Raisi. The current present as of July 2024 is more of a reformer who was interested in reviving the old Obama-era nuclear deal made by Rouhani’s reformist government.

Yup. We all have potential to embrace darkness if we don’t exercise our better selves. Nazi Germany is still the best example of so many unexceptional people embracing exceptional cruelty because it perversely permitted advancement in that society.

Got to shake Sir Edmund Hillary’s hand and exchange a few words with him while he autographed a print I bought to support his charity in Nepal.

A million man army to man the TikTok trenches for Mother Russia...🙄

I can guarantee you that I wouldn’t be missing a shift! 😂

Every trip I've ever made to the UK has been like this, including to Scotland with temperatures in the 70s in May (great excuse to buy new summer clothes)!

Probably rigged. Everyone knows Montreal's bagels are better...😉

The fact that it didn't recognize the flashing lights on the school bus and the deployed stop sign are disqualifying for the system. The dummy wouldn't have had a chance to be hit if the system could recognize those aspects of it's surroundings.

No, the white truck is parked in the correct way. I have a feeling that they rapidly parked that stationary Tesla just for this test.

I think the biggest issue for Iran right now is trying to re-establish their chain of command based on the number of senior leaders in both the IRGC and regular army who’ve been killed.
comment in response to post
Yup. Trump pulling out of the JCPOA in his first term without any replacement agreement made the attack last night largely inevitable. If you’ve destroyed the diplomatic option, than the only other way of preventing Iran getting nuclear weapons is the military option.

I saw the announcement last night before… everything else.

I’m sure we would not be seeing an attack of this magnitude tonight under a Harris Administration. November is having a lot of consequences.
comment in response to post
Did they get the Iranian Chief of Staff as well? I saw Iran confirming the head of the IRGC as killed, but hadn't seen confirmation on the CoS.

This hasn't aged well. 😬

Yup. Trump said don't attack the nuclear sites and Bibi blew him off...
comment in response to post
It's starting to look like old Joe kept Israel more in check than people gave him credit for. Trump said not to attack the nuclear sites and Bibi blew him off.
comment in response to post
Yup! Trump pulling out of that agreement made today inevitable. Obama's deal wasn't perfect, but it was better than nothing and no one has been able to achieve anything better than the JCPOA.
comment in response to post
Eventually, yes. Israel isn't going tolerate a nuclear armed Iran. The prospect isn't one that's relished by other nations in the region like the Saudis. That's why the JCPOA was so important. Throw in an unstable coalition dependent on the like of Ben Gvir & Smotrich, and this was going to happen.
comment in response to post
There's only two ways to prevent a nuclear armed Iran: diplomacy or military action. Once Trump withdrew from the Obama era deal, this was set in motion. No one has been able to get a replacement deal. And no one in the region really wants a nuclear armed Iran.🤷‍♂️

It's weird how a strike of this magnitude wasn't carried out on Biden's watch. Bibi knew he wasn't going to get away with as much with old Joe as POTUS.
comment in response to post
Hence the strike, because they're likely getting close. The IAEA declared them in breach of their non-proliferation obligations today. When Trump tore up Obama's deal with Iran, this strike became inevitable. It was just a question of when. www.bbc.com/news/article...
comment in response to post
Perhaps the Iranians thought that with his coalition intact (and delaying any prosecutions for corruption), Bibi might stand down. Now I'm wondering if the strike on Iran was a condition for keeping Ben Gvir and Smotrich on side with the coalition.
comment in response to post
I wonder if this was one of the conditions that kept Bibi's coalition government intact? I thought that the strikes might not happen since the Knesset didn't dissolve yesterday. I was wrong... really wrong.😬

I’m pretty sure we won’t like the answer. Those GOP senators know how crazy the MAGA/QAnon base is and don’t want to provoke their own supporters. 😐

Dems should demand her head

Nothing quite scolding the Democrats to teach the GOP a lesson...
comment in response to post
As a Canadian, I really don't understand how everything is always the Democrats fault and no one seems particularly interested in holding the GOP members to account. It's absolutely bonkers. No wonder you're literally on the edge of losing your democracy.
comment in response to post
Noem is literally a fascist invoking the constitution while her directives and department ignore the protections it guarantees. I can only hope that when this is all over she will be judged accordingly and get to spend some quality at a secure federal institution.

Please purge Bondi & Homan, please purge Bondi & Homan… 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I want them to get the usual Trump treatment of being discarded and thrown under the bus once they’ve outlived their usefulness.

That said, I can see why pathetic & stupid losers like Trump and Vance identify with the CSA leaders. Birds of a feather!
