Brain drain because of an authoritarian govt is what brought my family to the US (both parents were professors who had graduate degrees from Columbia U). A US degree made it easier for my mom to emigrate from Nigeria. I'm staying here though. No more running. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

On a call today I discovered that almost every participant had an #NIH grant to their institution abruptly terminated on Friday (3/21/25). These are private and public universities across the US!

Current Director of the OMB. If your boss was on the record as saying this – HR would likely suspend them because it is clear intent to cause a hostile work environment and would open up the organization to (successful) lawsuits. This is sociopathic. www.propublica.org/article/prop...

Backlash is a repeating theme in US politics. Between 1865 and 1877 (Reconstruction), the US had 3 Black senators and 21 representatives in Congress, most from the South. Then there was backlash - Jim Crow - and Black voters were disenfranchised. No Black person was elected Senator again until 1967.

I've never forgotten how America had Barack Obama's back in 2009 when he said police "acted stupidly" for arresting Henry Louis Gates. Speaking bluntly about race while Black is popular with the majority, which has consistently voted for Republican presidents since 1964. www.npr.org/sections/the...

Jawdropping. You would expect this in a dictatorship, not the United States. This country is unrecognizable.

Why would anyone who can avoid it come to the US now? Heartbreaking. Pointless. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

German US green card holder described as 'being “violently interrogated” at Logan Airport for hours, and being stripped naked, put in a cold shower by two officials, and being put back onto a chair.' He ended up at Mass General Hospital. He is still in ICE detention. www.wgbh.org/news/local/2...

I usually love flying, but I found that I was absolutely terrified for the first time ever two days ago as my flight (a regional jet) made its way from La Guardia to Washington National (same airport where a helicopter hit a regional jet). I think I'll limit flying for now. kdvr.com/news/local/p...

ICE has marked US citizens for deportation in the past, including one man imprisoned for almost 3.5 years until someone finally looked into his claims that he was a citizen. This is in part because “there is no right to a court-appointed attorney in immigration court.” www.npr.org/sections/the...

If we keep silent when a Secretary of State revokes green cards/permanent residency today we shouldn’t be surprised when this admin revokes naturalized citizenship tomorrow with no explanation. There needs to be due process, not the whims of the regime. Does the First Amendment hold for all?
