The only real benefit to bending the knee to a Mad King is that it's much easier for him to cut your head off

ooo she sounds smart and hot wonder if she has a name!!!

lol this is patently ridiculous, almost Inception levels of not giving an independent journalist credit. Subscribe to The Handbasket: www.thehandbasket.co

I think folks need to start looking at the timeline of video game history, especially the 80s and 90s, in the context of months, not years. I don't think people really understand how fast gaming technology and gameplay innovations actually progressed, both 2D and 3D.

Seconding this, as a white dude who came up in the Mountain Music community: I don't know how they did it, but between Rocky Road to Dublin, Go Lassie Go, and Pick Poor Robin Clean, the songs were *wrong*. Wonderfully performed, but unsettling in a way I can't quite put my finger on. 1/

The Chub Brothers

this really was straight off the dome piece

Congrats everyone — we are at the point where The Onion and real life are indistinguishable from one another. 😳🇺🇸 theonion.com/ice-agents-w...

It's wild to hear the writers of The Hundred Line talk abut the game. Like they went into a fugue state, Dwarf Fortress style, and created something that fully drained them And y'know what? I can understand that now. I'm nowhere near seeing it all yet, but I can see its SHAPE, and it is ridiculous.

Reminder that right-wingers in power were always exactly this petty and stupid

Even when I try to write about fascism I write about plants

Even assuming this is a crime, it's not a crime for the president, because he now enjoys immunity. "The President ... may not be prosecuted for exercising his core constitutional powers, and he is entitled, at a minimum, to a presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts."

I will say one thing about this: You cannot refuse to take an integral part in your child's life and then still wonder what is wrong with "kids these days." www.theguardian.com/books/2025/a...

Reflections after a few days in DC for the first time since this all began: No one is ignorant of what the admin’s policies mean for US influence in the world, or for the international order writ large (obligatory caveat that some people disagree whether there ever was such a thing).

RFK Jr. Encourages Americans To Do Their Own Research About Dragons

I am unashamed to be shocked that the guy in charge of health in this country literally does not believe in germs. That is not a thing that usually happens even with the most uncharitable view of “baseline” America.

on the lower end of the scale of issues stemming from the assassination of Polygon by the coward Jim Bankoff - my recently finished essay on Shinichiro Watanabe and the architecture of / approach towards his future dystopias needs a home 😬 anyone interested and able to pay, please do get in touch!

"Mat Piscatella and Daniel Ahmad from market research firms Circana and Niko Partners said Microsoft was reacting to the Trump administration’s recent imposition of 145 percent tariffs on China, where the Xbox is largely manufactured." www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...

The President just effectively signed a statement that he is committing a crime, violating a criminal statute enacted with overwhelming bipartisan majorities (it passed 96-2 in the Senate). Here is the law and his post. 1/3

This is a fucking wild thing to post

The AI jobs crisis is not coming—it's here right now. It just might not look the way many thought it would. www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/the-ai-job...

It's very funny when NPR is interviewing an expert in something and it all feels fairly normal and evenhanded and then at the end they're like "and that was Christopher Halliburton from the Center for Exploding Venezuela"

with trump in the throes of tariff madness, many are bracing for impact by raising prices. the developers of everspace 2, however, are taking a different tack, preemptively lowering the price of an upcoming expansion to ease the burden on players' wallets

No, this is not “the worst timeline.” You don’t want to know how bad they have it in the Centipede Dimension

Nostalgia

Time to reset the "hours since I have seen a story that gives me a queasy since of impending doom" sign. I don't know why I even keep that sign around.

The PS1 has one of the most diverse gaming libraries ever and it's always a joy to see what's hiding in it.

🤔So we don't honor or help veterans now? Only victories? Back when Stallone could act. This scene covers PTSD before it was widely known, the fact that the US did not and could not win the war, the fact that civilian children get hurt most in war, the homelessness that veterans experience, and IEDs

It matters “bc the admin is using the language of ‘invasion’ to justify sending our law-abiding immig neighbors to prison indefinitely w/out even the ability to see the inside of a courtroom. The fact no such invasion exists makes the horrors done in the name of this fiction exponentially worse.”

Someday, the myth about “Sega didn’t know 3D was the future until it was too late” regarding the Saturn will be snuffed out. The problem is that would require researching the history of the economic, technological, and supply chain situations during the development of the console.

"Trump’s cognitive abilities and overall competence have always left a lot to be desired, but these interviews show a president who’s no longer capable of even the veneer of mental acuity. Meanwhile, his cabinet and even congressional Republicans behave like courtiers to a mad king."

The top comment here, a liberal encouraging OP to delete this, is why it’ll never happen. Liberal top brass are like domesticated wildlife that can no longer recognize predators at this point

Liberals, if you want to do some real good trouble and damage to the Fascists: Make Curtis Yarvin fear for his life. I am dead serious. Make this motherfucker as much of the Main Character as you all have done very well (for real, props) with Elon Musk. Make Yarvin's life a living hell

But you can say Merry Christmas again. (We are a global embarrassment.)

having to put a “don’t worry, i’m a dumbass” placard on the worst car of all time in order to drive it is insane

sorry but every AI announcement just feels like

I would say that pursuit of endless growth is killing the entertainment industry, but really, it's just killing the entertainment megacorporations. They'll keep laying people off, replacing them with AI clickbait garbage, people will stop engaging with it, and their growth slows even more.

In general it takes 15- 20 years for government research breakthroughs to reach public life defunding under Bush is why the tech sector is out of ideas and just giving us "unregulated hotel," "unregulated taxi," "art fraud but digital," "shitty conversation emulator" etc. It'll get even sadder

forgot I made this lol

It’s not that he hasn’t gotten the message it’s that *he doesn’t care*

There was a whole group of people who said that free speech was under attack because some college students were mean to racists and now Trump is using the full power of the federal government to destroy any institution that doesn’t align with him ideologically and silence

"Resolve to defy the Supreme Court" Just report reality, guys. SCOTUS said "do what you can to bring him back". You're reporting that the admin has "strengthening resolution" to NOT do that. That's a Constitutional crisis and you should be reporting it as one.

love to make america great again by essentially expelling the people that enrich our children’s lives

One thing I’m confident of is that we’ll never get past Trump until news people figure out how to stop describing “overt blackmail of perceived political opponents” as “a fight”
