Here’s an equation for our Minister of Education of Ontario, Jill Dunlop: Measles is airborne + Measles can linger for hours indoors + We have cases in Ontario = Reason # eleventy billion to #CleanTheAir in schools and school buses #WhyWouldntWe www.instagram.com/reel/DGlZ_5X...

We spend 90% of time Indoors Children spend a large Proportion Of time high density schools Do not have choices In the shared air breathed Relying on leaky buildings 🪟 natural ventilatn Is Wholly INADEQUATE GOOD #Ventilation #AirFiltration Is ESSENTIAL 4 Healthy Safe Learning 🧠🫀🫁

ONTARIO! TIME TO VOTE! 🗳️ We STILL don’t have air quality monitoring in Ontario schools/buses. We STILL don’t have air quality measures to reduce pollutants & CO2 in Ontario schools/buses. We are STILL sick and tired. VOTE for a better future for our kids. They’re counting on us. #OnPoli #OntEd

🏫 All kids deserve clean air. 🧑‍🏫 All educators deserve clean air. 🧑‍💼 All school staff deserve clean air. 🚌 All bus drivers deserve clean air. It’s time to prioritize clean air in schools and on school buses in Ontario. Everyone deserves to breathe clean air. #OntEd #Vote #OnPoli #CleanTheAir

This is what you get on Ontario's school buses in winter: CO2 is >5000 ppm. This is objectively disgusting. 15 mins after cracking a window, the CO2 was 4000 ppm — still awful. At these levels, approx 1 in 10 breaths is 100% air that has already been in someone's lungs.

My daughter and I spoke with @flannerydean.bsky.social about our concerns about poor air quality in schools and on school buses for her piece in @thenarwhal.ca. Such an excellent read for anyone interested in a deep dive! PS Hey @aranethome.bsky.social you're welcome for the free publicity 😉

A 🧵: Honoured to be interviewed, along with many others, about helping ensure the places we inhabit the most and that have the largest impact on our communities - such as schools - have the best air possible to breathe. /1

Only 36% of teachers in USA and 13% in Canada rate the air quality in their classrooms as good or excellent. 83% of teachers are worried that poor indoor air quality contributes to respiratory illnesses. Result of a survey of 1,212 teachers by the Fellowes company. www.asumag.com/energy/indoo...

We don’t think we need to remind anyone here, but Bill 140, Improving Air Quality for Our Children Act, 2023, tabled by Ontario NDP MPP @chandrapasma.bsky.social would be a GAME CHANGER to enhancing school buildings, reducing the spread of illness, and improving academic achievement.

Short 🧵: Unless C19 disappears or we develop a vax to prevent contracting it, I will never accept NACI’s categories for access to C19 vaccines. 3 reasons: 1) No one - NO one - can say with certainty how many Covid infections anyone (including me and my children) has had. /1

Who could possibly have guessed that the "kids need to get infected with pathogens" folks would be wrong and that infections with pathogens are actually bad? /s www.cidrap.umn.edu/antimicrobia...

COVID-19 linked to more heart complications than flu, RSV The median age of children hospitalized with COVID-19 was 15 years. www.cidrap.umn.edu/c...

Amazing! 😍

Another reminder: Respiratory infections spread mainly through the air. That’s why they affect the lungs. Masks, worn correctly and consistently, reduce the spread of respiratory infections. Respirators work better than masks. Washing hands isn’t wrong, but it won’t stop airborne transmission.

Studies describe vaccine efficacy against long COVID The risk reduction in developing long COVID was largely linked to reducing the risk of COVID infection in the first place. www.cidrap.umn.edu/c...

Woot woot! @onschoolsafety.bsky.social 👊🏻 ca.news.yahoo.com/must-more-pr...

In this piece, my co-authors Lyne Filiatrault, @mark-ungrin.bsky.social, Dorothy Wigmore, and I argue that the stakes are too high with #BirdFlu for those in charge to get it so terribly wrong again (like #SARS in Toronto & #COVID19). www.coastreporter.net/opinion/opin... (a few quotes next...)

This is a pattern that’s been recognized for some time…respiratory infections diffuse up the age gradient. Daycares and schools are amplifiers. For diseases that spread through air, a focus on ventilation and filtration in areas where kids could probably blunt this

We must protect students from Long COVID. “Without efforts to reduce students’ risk of getting sick - and to meaningfully help them when they do - we can only expect more population-level problems with well-being, ongoing health-care needs and academic succees.” theconversation.com/we-can-and-m...
